Finnair Plus - Sometimes you gotta love Finnair...

Just booked two tickets to India for this November, flying Helsinki-Mumbai and Delhi-Helsinki. Total price per ticket with all the taxes and was 504 euro per person.
I then called Finnair Plus and used miles to upgrade the tix. With the current campaign, the total hit was 40.000 points per head (even with our bottom of the barrel Z fare). Availability was no problem, nor was the open jaw.
In this instance, at least, Finnair does offer fantastic value.
Cheers,
T.
BTW, I checked the cost of the trip on Lufthansa. Flights on the same dates using a biz class award would have cost 90.000 miles (equivalent to 150.000 Finnair points) and 256 euros per head in fees.

So true! The good side of AY consists of easy upgrades. ^ And unlike on many other carriers, these also include the complimentary lounge access even for those who are not tier members. What is more, they are even more flexible with upgrades in the case of overbookings. I have been upgraded two times on AY long haul flights thanks to my well-tailored suit (and I guess: my diplomatic passport), although I am not a tier member of AY. :)
Interesting.. especially considering that AONE3/4 is relatively inexpensive fom South Korea ;-)
What is the booking class for AY's business upgrades if one wants to check availability with expertflyer?

On AY you may get any economy class reservation upgraded, provided that you have the required amount of points and that there is enough place in C/J. :p Once upgraded to business, the new class will technically appear as F. (Previously it used to be R, but on my most recent upgrades the upgraded business appears as F, which curiously on most airlines stands for First Class, which again AY doesn't have. Any explanation?)

It seems to me that AY has several business award classes: at least R, F and as you added, also U. I wonder why. On my most recent upgrade (next July) the class is F.
