Thought I'd post this here about a stay I had at this location recently:
I'm not too sure what I detest more about this hotel: the fact that our room smelled like a gym locker and looked like it hasn't been cleaned in a week, OR was it the exposed lights and wires hanging precariously inches above my head when I was taking a shower. All this can be yours for $69.00 a night!
Dear Lord, why I chose this hotel I'm not too sure... I guess it's because I have stayed in Days Inn hotels in other areas of the country (Palm Springs to be exact) and have had a positive experience. Unfortunately, I can't say that for the Days Inn Alcoa/TYS Airport, at all.
Walking into the lobby of the hotel, I knew something was fishy.. or rather, wasn't as was the case. The lobby had a lovely 30 gallon fishtank except it was empty of any signs of aquatic life save for the thick slick of algae growing on the inside of the glass tank. The receptionist, while very nice, looked quite descheveled - a dirty yellow Days Inn polo untucked and very unprofessional. She handed me two swipe keys to my room and I headed up the flight of outdoor stairs, apprehensive about what awaited me my assigned room.
When I got to my room, I opened the door and a stench of hot sweaty socks came rushing out of the double room. I immediately turned on the air conditioning and left the door to the outside facing room open in an effort to cleanse my nostrils and the air in the room of memories of high school gym class.
As I turned on the lights inside the room, I saw a constellation of stains on the sides of the mattresses and on the bed spreads. It was downright disgusting. God only knows what activities caused those stains, however; I pulled the bedspread off of my bed which revealed the only clean objects in the room: my white sheets.
The shower and toilet area is seperated from the rest of the bathroom by a door: this is probably to keep others who are not taking a shower from being electrocuted. Let me explain. Above the shower area is an old dirty square light fixture which was half-hanging down and exposing several small electrical wires. As I turned the hot water on and the steam from the shower began to rise, the steam cooled and condensed on the exposed wires. Water and electricity are not a healthy mix for one wishing to take a shower. I took a very quick shower with tepid water so as not to cause any more steam to rise to the electrical wires for fear of being electrocuted. I felt like I had entered into a sick and twisted game in the "SAW" movies. "Wanna play a game?!" Umm, no thanks Days Inn Alcoa/TYS Airport.
Suffice to say that there are probably several nicer and safer hotels in this area that you could and should stay at. Take my advice and avoid this hotel at all costs.
