Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus - Caviar service resumes?View Full Version : Caviar service resumes? spk May 1, 08, 3:10 pm I heard from a cabin crew that effective May 1, Caviar service resumes in long-haul First class. Anyone can confirm this? RTW4 May 2, 08, 4:29 am Yes. I can. I just flew LHR-BKK on TG 917 in first and CAVIAR is back..... behuman May 2, 08, 6:04 am I heard from a cabin crew that effective May 1, Caviar service resumes in long-haul First class. Anyone can confirm this? Caviar from a fish farm may be less expensive than kerosene. Jokes apart it is a good move from TG to respect again their premium passengers. Perhaps we can even hope for BKK limousine transfers, matresses and duvets. brunos May 2, 08, 6:08 am The new TG board did announce improvements for premium cabins and that is great. Let's hope that it will not be the usual TG thing: lasts a few months and get suppressed by a new cost-cutting plan (already announced...). Braniff May 2, 08, 1:45 pm I heard from a cabin crew that effective May 1, Caviar service resumes in long-haul First class. Anyone can confirm this? How appropriate that caviar service should resume as of Mayday. ;) JackR May 3, 08, 1:36 am Yes. I can. I just flew LHR-BKK on TG 917 in first and CAVIAR is back..... Has anyone experienced the caviar service? Any comments? Have there been any other improvements to meal and drink service in F or is it just caviar returning? Can anyone tell me if they would serve caviar in F on the evening HKG-BKK flight? kinchai May 5, 08, 2:03 pm Can anyone tell me if they would serve caviar in F on the evening HKG-BKK flight? Any recent experience out there ? Waht about the wines? Do they still serve that awful Givry in F class ? Since they printed a brand new wine list for 2008 and purchased wines accordingly, I doubt that there will be any change in the (many) coming month. All their wines are now mediocre, below C wines served on SQ or CX. On exception is Dom. A colleague of mine did not have caviar late April. jimmac May 30, 08, 8:18 am I enjoyed their caviar on the daytime flight to FRA from BKK on May 28. Excellent service and I enjoyed two helpings of the stuff. Nice to see it back. a340-xxx May 31, 08, 1:53 am Caviar is only for long haul flights in F, I had never had caviar for the HKG flights. Caviar was served on TG665 PVG-BKK last night, was not on the menu though IIRC. Since when is this flight on an '346 ? Pleasant surprise even if the price for the upgrade C->F was quite steep. gleff May 31, 08, 4:59 am Will be interested to see if it returns regularly to PEK-BKK and BKK-NRT in addition to long-haul... And perhaps with the re-introduction they might serve it with a caviar spoon? @:-) NickW May 31, 08, 8:09 am Well, BKK-NRT is scarcely less far than LHR-BOS! vysean May 31, 08, 3:28 pm Caviar was served on TG665 PVG-BKK last night, was not on the menu though IIRC. Since when is this flight on an '346 ? Pleasant surprise even if the price for the upgrade C->F was quite steep. It's in the schedule through at least August. I'm considering the C->F upgrade myself - would you mind my asking approximately what the upgrade cost? Mr H May 31, 08, 4:31 pm When I flew in TG F from BKK-FRA in January I was very disappointed by the experience. The food was actively nasty - I wouldn't have eaten the second meal even in Y. The wines were mediocre and the whites were not cooled. The service was just invisible, apart from pulling down the blinds to create night from day. Sure, the seat was nice and had a lot of legroom, but that goes without saying in F. And the ground service was great. Just the in flight experience (which is what really counts) that was poor. BKKROP May 31, 08, 5:13 pm Hi vysean, last time it was mentioned on the board it was US$310, but expect some sort of fuel surcharge nowadays, great when they change planes and you end up with a 346. Hi Mr H, overcome the noodle syndrome and use the book the chef routine. You can order what you like and that way you get the lobster prawns abalone and caviar. As far as getting the crew to work 15 hour days, or the airlines carrying double staff, I doubt if we will see those work practices happen again, I have trouble getting my lot to work 7 hours. Nothing worse than having a bad flight in First, this is where you really want things to be perfect, I understand your feelings, regards a340-xxx May 31, 08, 7:42 pm It's in the schedule through at least August. I'm considering the C->F upgrade myself - would you mind my asking approximately what the upgrade cost? It was US$ 346.-- I think, at the airport at PVG. You can probably get it cheaper if you book F from the beginning. Cheers UncleDude May 31, 08, 9:32 pm Had Caviar on PEK-BKK last week. Not sure of the quality as it was not listed on the Menu..came as a nice surprise. There was a vast waste of food as I was only person in First, they really don't need to supply a whole 12 piece Almond Tart for One Person. I felt quite guilty in these difficult times economically for Airlines. Thai-Kiwi May 31, 08, 10:08 pm I felt quite guilty in these difficult times economically for Airlines. Just remember that the increased fare you paid for F probably covers the food costs many, many times over. The real cost of carrying and F pax is that the same room would take around 4 Y Pax !! Enjoy the guilty feeling........... Cheers, TK UncleDude Jun 2, 08, 6:17 am Just remember that the increased fare you paid for F probably covers the food costs many, many times over. Cheers, TK The difference between Business and First on this sector is only $250 about the same as a portion of Caviar at some New York Restaurants. kinchai Jun 3, 08, 5:37 am So the PVG & PEK are getting Caviar what about HKG? Anyone? My next flight is not until next month and I have still yet to be the only person in F. UncleDude I envy you ^ brunos Jun 3, 08, 11:24 am The difference between Business and First on this sector is only $250 about the same as a portion of Caviar at some New York Restaurants. Oh, but TG serves "cheap" caviar that comes from a fishfarm in Italy; Unfortunately taste (and cost) bears no comparison with the caviar coming from wild sturgeons from Russia and Iran. A full coffee poon is hardly worth 25$ in a grocery store. Note that CX is also serving fishfarm caviar. Besides cost, it is politally incorrect for an airline to contribute to the destruction of sturgeons. BTW Kinchai, I flew numerous times BKK-HKG in F at the time when they were serving caviar longhaul, and never got any on that short flight. BKK- PEK or PVG are longer flights. But who knows with TG, they might decide serve caviar to HKG? spk Jun 3, 08, 12:58 pm Flew BKK-HKG on TG600 and TG601 last week in F. No caviar. TG is offering good P class fare. It is cheaper than full C and only a few thousand Baht more expensive than D fare. The F ground service alone can justify the cost difference, IMHO. The seat on 7442 is quite OK for 2:45 hours flight. brahms77 Jun 4, 08, 1:08 am On NRT-BKK TG677 yesterday had caviar in F. Not so good in my opinion. Lobster Thermidor was mediocre at best, but we're talking about airline food... TG service in F was minimal at best but I did enjoy the ground service (cart ride and luggage boy helping me all the way to the car). I think the cart ride is a bit too much, especially given that there are other people walking around the terminal. I was on ANA F JFK-NRT and ANA simply has the best airline catering amongst all *A airlines. ^ brunos Jun 4, 08, 7:46 am On NRT-BKK TG677 yesterday had caviar in F. Not so good in my opinion. Not that I care much, but nothing in this generic kit was useful. Hopefully, I will get Hermes or Bulgari on my return. :td: pansted00 Jun 5, 08, 12:37 am Since they printed a brand new wine list for 2008 and purchased wines accordingly, I doubt that there will be any change in the (many) coming month. Happy to report that the wine menu has actually been changed ( flew BKK-CDG 2 days ago). For red wines, the awful Givry has been replaced by a Santenay ( didn't try it). The Bordeaux is now a nice Pauillac " Pichon de Longueville 2004", which will be replaced by a " 2002 Chateau Batailley" when supplies of the former are depleted.Didn't try the white wines, but they are Santenay and a Graves. A definite improvement . Caviar is also back, even though it still is the fish farm stuff. Service was superb even in a full house. brunos Jun 5, 08, 3:11 am Happy to report that the wine menu has actually been changed ( flew BKK-CDG 2 days ago). Although it is a great shame to drink a magnificent wine such as Pichon Longueville so young, almost a crime. But still so much better than the awful cheap wines they had started to serve five months back (those will probably go to biz class or shorthaul F). luisparis Jun 6, 08, 11:33 am 5 months back they were serving Lynch Bages weren't they? 2001 if I remember correctly. Quite nice. Just flew CDG-BKK in F and the caviar is indeed back, although it seems to have run out of stock during meal time. Flight was below average with a service that started decently but reached disaster half flight ( deep into the night, I relax enough to try and sleep, lay down, wear the eye shades, curl up on the pillow, start to fall asleep... than someone roughly shakes my shoulder...what?!? "Sir, would you like us to wake you up for breakfast?? " I was really about to lose it, especially I had already stated I didn't want to be woken up) Jumped so hard out of bed I actually lost the eyeshades and after the culprit got me a new pair I was in no state to sleep again. Later on before landing the overheard compartment next to mine appeared locked to the disarray of the lady who had her belongings inside, she sure didn't enjoy much the thought of waiting for the mechanics upon landing to resolve the issue... the flight superviser came over a couple of times, stepped on the ottoman which was assigned to my seat and eventually opened the compartment with a knife. He stepped down but never apologised for standing there on the first place. He walked around later on still utterly unsmiling. I can't say I enjoy much TG experience, especially on this flight CDG BKK, which is on an unpleasant afternoon schedule. Although there is no F service DOH-BKK and one must stopover, I might end flying more often Qatar as the service and facilities at least in J are ay better than TG and they have an evening flight CDG-BKK as well as very competitive fares ex BKK. pansted00 Jun 6, 08, 7:17 pm This is wonderful news. Fliar Jun 8, 08, 6:45 am No caviar April 29 BKK-FRA, but am hopeful for the return later this month. The amenity kit we got was a joke. Completely useless. Fliar Jun 8, 08, 6:47 am Abalone? Caviar?
