Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Margaret River or Ningaloo?

Hey guys,
I'm going to be in Perth WA in June for a few weeks to visit my boyfriend's family. I was thinking of maybe taking some side trips to Margaret River or Ningaloo. I'm 21 and my boyfriend is 20 with a full WA licence. Will we need to sell our mums to rent a car? How much is the premium for under 21s?
Also, is there much to see in Ningaloo or Margaret River in June? I appreciate the two are totally different, but I am into wine tasting and staying at quaint B&B just as much as all the beach stuff.
Thanks

Just be aware there's almost next to nothing in the way of facilities out by Cape Ranges/Ningaloo. I think there may be some primitive accommodation outside the park on the north side, and somewhat better stuff in Exmouth which is a drive away. And don't even think about crossing Yardie Creek w/o a 4WD/AWD.

Weather wise Ningaloo will be a better bet. Margaret River will most likely be cool and rainy at that time. Of course it's much closer to Perth than Ningaloo though. Remember, in WA, the first Monday in June is a long weekend so that may impact on accommodation options.

... How much is the premium for under 21s?...Avis charges an extra AUD25 per day for ages 21 to 24. Under 21 is either not possible or costs AUD 100 per day (varies by location). Discount car companies often have higher fees; often the majors (Avis, Hertz, etc) will be cheaper all-in than the discount companies for this situation (similarly for one-way rentals).

have you decided? we loved our three weeks up to ningaloo and back... lots to see and do if you love outside/nature stuff.... and the camel rides on the beach at Monkey Mia were wonderful.... but ningaloo from perth is definitely NOT a side trip... it is THE trip. we camped in ningaloo, and the person who posted about almost no amenities was right on. we loved it that way. coral bay had more touristy stuff and great snorkling, too.

Hmm it's a tough choice actually but I think Margaret River might be a better option, although crappy/stormy weather doesn't entice me that much! Might be a good excuse to snuggle up by the fireplace at a cosy B&B haha
