Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific - Luxury beach hotel for this weekend - Near Brisbane

Hi. I'm going to be in Canberra for about two weeks on business, and will be there for this coming weekend 2-May through 4-May. I'm keen to find a luxury beach hotel for a weekend getaway; either near Brisbane or near Sydney (due to flight schedules).

I'm willing to drive a bit from the airport to get to a suitable hotel.

If you have any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

Near Brisbane: Versace. 2BR with private pool is AUD 1500 per night now. No real luxury hotels anywhere in Australia, though, so don't expect the typical SE Asian standards. More modest rooms start from circa AUD 500.

Near Sydney: best on the beach is circa 3-star, and that is Crowne Plaza Coogee Beach (great location, great beach, but definitely not luxury). This time of the year SYD is a bit cool for beach weather.

Just a reminder that it is a long weekend in Queensland this weekend (Labor Day on Monday), so that may affect availability of accommodation.

If you are planning to stay at Versace, CBR->OOL would be another flight option.

If you want something a bit out of the ordinary - not your regular resort type place, but definitely luxury with great food and just an hours drive from Sydney, look at www.kims.com.au

I would suggest somewhere up at Noosa Beach.
The Sheraton is there, but not beachfront (across the road), and is nice but you can get an appartment right on the beach.

Highly recommend the Hyatt Coloom (sp?) on the Sunshine Coast about an hour from Brisbane. The standard rooms are larger than the suites at many properties, the service was great and the on-property restaurants were surprisingly good and affordable. It's also a short drive from the scene in Noosa.
