I recently had a stay at a nice Best Western in Peru, IN. I used 24,000 (2 x 12,000) points for the two nights.
I was very surprised when I checked in that they had upgraded the room. I would have thought that upgrades would have only been on paid rooms, but I guess there was availability and I qualified. They put me into a larger room ("suite") that even had a jacuzzi tub in it.
Now that my business travel plans for the future may be changing, I may not be staying at Best Westerns as much, so I guess I'll be seeing whether any other hotel programs would be willing to match my status.
