You will have to recheck as BA is One World..

darn! do you have any idea how long that whole process would take: get bags, customs, make it to the BA counter? and thanks for the help
You will have to recheck as BA is One World..Are you sure about this? If it's a through ticket I believe NZ will transfer the bags. NZ market NZ to CDG (and BCN, actually) where LHR-CDG is on BA, and I'm pretty sure they'll interline bags.
Not sure about LAX-LHR, but it would depend on whether you have two separate tickets I guess.

Im not 100% in this situation, but Air NZ has never interlined for any other airline than Star Alliance for me.
Im not 100% in this situation, but Air NZ has never interlined for any other airline than Star Alliance for me.Is your statement regarding separate tickets (in which case I'd agree, they're unlikely to do it) or where there has been tickets purchased that NZ have sold, and include the non-Star airline?
I know for sure that NZ will interline to AA on LAX-MIA when sold as a through ticket (e.g. AKL-LAX-MIA); so I would think if it was a single NZ ticket (i.e. 086 stock) with a BA sector that they would interline the baggage.

I used to fly regularly to GVA from NZ, I flew NZ to LHR and then was interlined on BA to GVA. The luggage was always transferred. It used to be interlined on Swissair as well when it existed.
NZ interlines with whatever airlines it sells joint tickets with. After all, you can interline from a regional airport in NZ onto international flights through Auckland on QF and CX in my experience.

My experience matches ajnz - if it is a single ticket then NZ will check bags through regardless of whether the onward airline is *A, QF, or other. As for NZ->BA transfer at LHR, I would allow a minimum of 2 hours and more if they are on separate tickets. Note that not all BA flights are from T5 as of May.

its separate tickets. nz is reward through amc and BA is bought. i will ask at check in at nz j class. it sounds like a big fat "maybe". thanks for all insight.

On separate tickets it is unlikely. NZ will not want to accept responsibility if your bags get lost at LHR.

No T5 for BA Barcelona flights. It's either T1 or T2 alongside Iberia operations. A 757 too.

I thought currently T1 and moving to T3 later this year (exact timing is uncertain given the LHR terminal shuffle has been delayed by BAA following the bad start with BA T5 phase 1).
As for 757, not always.

That's correct
