DFW AIRPORT (CBS 11 News) ―

Skycaps at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and other airports nationwide have filed a federal class-action lawsuit against American and United Airlines. The skycaps claim the fees customers pay to check their bags in at curbside have drastically reduced their tips.

The new lawsuits come after nine American Airlines skycaps in Boston won $325,000 in lost tips. TXA 21 News spoke with one of the plaintiff skycaps at DFW Airport, who doesn't want to be identified for fear he'll lose his job.

"It's wrong for United to take money out of our pockets like this," he said.

My solution: eliminate skycap service all together. I've never used it anyway.

If the skycaps are going to start suing (and I do see their point), they will soon be out of a job.

I don't see their point. I mean, I see how they might have lost income. But I don't see what kind of claim they have against UA or AA, unless they had some contract in which the airlines agreed to not charge for the service so that the skycaps could collect all the tips.

Besides, having to pay for skycap service has been the norm at certain airports for years, such as MIA. I believe AA was receiving that money, although it's possible that the skycaps had fixed the price and collected the money for themselves.
