Hi all-
I have rentals with Alamo at the OGG and HNL airports for June. Has anyone used Alamo at either location and care to share any tips to perhaps speed the rental process?
TIA!

On-line check-in the day before is essential. The lines can be very long at OGG. If you're already checked in, you can go straight to the lot and pick your car.

In OGG, National and Alamo are right beside each other and half a mile or less from the terminal. Each has its' own Shuttle Bus and they run every 10 minutes or so.
My wife usually stays at the terminal and awaits our luggage, while I make a mad dash for the appropriate Shuttle Bus. Object of the exercise is for me to get to the rental car lot before the rest of the passengers from our plane! After getting the car, I return to the terminal and pick up my wife and the luggage. Over the years, we have done this without cell phones but two of them would be very handy, as delays can happen. When departing the island, we return the car and us plus luggage go to the terminal together, in the Shuttle Bus.
The distance is further in HNL and the general area can become busy, busy. My advice is for all travelers and luggage to stay together and use the appropriate Shuttle Bus (in both directions).

I will take your advice and try the tag team effort to get the rental car when we arrive to OGG.
Team effort in HNL!;)

In OGG, you will save 20 to 30 minutes. More if large planes have just landed.
I agree with the advice from jrpaguia. Look for a small outdoor kiosk, about 100 feet behind the main Alamo building (in which everyone else will be lined up, if you have arrived at a busy time).
Once you get the car from Alamo in HNL, your really want to get on your way, and not have to head back into the hectic airport itself.

Are there kiosk's at both OGG and HNL? The one that is beign spoke about, located behind the Alamo building, is at OGG, correct?

Yes, I was referring to OGG. The Shuttle Bus stops right in front of the Alamo main building. Your rental car driver and car pick-up person then walks around the building (either to the left or right), in order to reach the cars and the Attendant kiosk.
Alamo in HNL is also a participant in the Online Check-in Program. However, I am unsure if there is currently a separate kiosk or whether you simply seek out an Attendant on the lot. The Shuttle Bus driver will know.

No kiosk on the Alamo lot in HNL. However, the Lot Attendant meets the Shuttle Bus and will be right there when your Team gets off ! This service is for those that have completed the Online Check-in process. My guess is that there is a good chance that the Shuttle Bus driver will ask for the names of those with Online Check-in and will radio that ahead to the Lot Attendant. Your Team does not have to go inside the building so you will be on the beach at least a half hour early.
HNL lot is (808) 833-4585
OGG lot is (808) 871-6235

Are you okay with all of this Princess1 ?
The process at National is much the same but I don't think they offer Online Check-in. What they do offer is membership in their Emerald Club, which allows one to "bypass the counter" and head for the car aisle and pick out what one likes best. This can sometimes translate to an upgraded car, as I found out on the two most recent visits to their outlet.

Sounds all like fantastic advice. Had a 3 hour fight with Dollar at HNL few months back. They even gave me wrong directions to the most visited place on the island and I missed a critical meeting. sigh.
I'll print out your instructions and let you know how we do.
Thanks!!!!!!

Alamo OGG have advised me that Online Check-In does not work and one must go to the Counter, if using any form of coupon, voucher or certificate in one's Reservation. For example, the $20 off weekly rates e-coupon, that is endlessly promoted on the Alamo website. Or the 50% off GPS rental (for finding "the most visited place"). Sure enough, this is what is stated in View Requirements, under Online Check-In, on the Alamo website. Note that there are additional restrictions, that might force one to go to the Counter.
Sending an advance Runner to the Counter, with DL and CC in pocket, may be the best way to go, under the above circumstances.

If coupons are in play and on-line check-in is not possible, then perhaps signing up for Quicksilver may put you in a much shorter line.

Thanks for another good suggestion, jrpaguia.
In our case, both of us are QS and we do use the QS Counter. However, we were more trying to help out others that might not be QS Members and would face the risk of a long main line, if using coupons/vouchers/certificates, needing a car seat, etc., etc.
I can feel the sand between my toes !

Quicksilver membership is not difficult to get.
I would recommend joining even if you fly
Alamo only once a year.
I use it all the time in OGG and HNL. It's nice
to be second in the Quicksilver line instead of
having 20 people ahead of you.
