Just an FYI to anyone who needs a fill up before returning a rental car. Do not use the BP on the corner of Middlebelt and Wick (just off I-94). Gas is 40 cents less per gallon at the station two miles south on Middlebelt (corner of Northline). The other station with such outrageous prices is on the main road in and out of Metro just north of the Smith terminal.

Stations on or near the airport property have always been high, if you take Meriman north of the airport, you should find gas at a more 'reasonable' price.

Of course they are, and that is not unique to DTW. The point I was trying to make is that if someone is not familar with the area there are other options since they probably won't be driving north on Merriman. The rental car return signs all direct people to Middlebelt road, and that BP is the only station right there off the expressway.

Good information. Would love to see more tips like this on Flyer Talk. ^
I had a 22 hour layover (planned) in DTW a year or so ago. I was considering the purchase of an investment property in the area. I rented a car and ventured out into Romulus. Kinda wish I hadn't. :p
