I've just booked 2 seats from DPS to HKG in J for late June. The aircraft is a 747. I haven't flown CX in a 747 before. I'd be very grateful for seating advice. We've currently got seats on the upper deck one behind the other. Can we talk/see each other in this config? We're both OW Emerald if that helps with better seats?

Also, how can we find our ticket numbers, wasn't shown on the payment page or subsequent email.

Thanks

Don't count on the airplane type. Did a DPS trip a few month back - on both legs the 747 with the nice C seats and a chance to actually be in a F seat with a C ticket disappeared magically and was replaced with a 777 with regional seats.

Cathay Pacific is very famous for changing equipment on regional routes on short notice.

DPS is sold as a two class flight. As OW Emerald, I would call CX and request to be seated in the F class cabin if possible.

Otherwise, get two seats next to each other on the UD on 744/74J.
If 74A (new seats, unlikely on this route), one front one back would be good.

If you're allocated seats on the UD one behind each other that suggests that they have scheduled a 747 with the new business class so it's the herring-bone layout. I personally find this fine for flying alone as there is no-one to bother me but when travelling with someone else, it is pretty difficult to have a conversation. They generally use the 747 on the Sunday (maybe because there are loads of HKers coming back from a weekend away) - when Mrs Schmidt and I did this a few months back we were bumped into the new F seating which was great - we had a very pleasant late lunch over Borneo....

I took this flight yesterday.

It was a 747-400 old style.

I am OW Emerald through AA.

Rows 1-4 were blocked and I asked at check-in and received a seat in that section. In additional to Emerald, I was on a full J ticket.

There were 4 other people in the section.

A few passengers boarding through the 1st door commented on the section.

The flight attendants stood their ground and said only ground staff could assign people to this section.

One man was quite rude and carried on and on about getting into the section. Though polite, the flight attendant stood her ground despite repeated pleadings by the passenger.

The service was very personalized. Even though the meals were business, the service was definetely a step up. We even got dine on demand.

The flight attendant later told me it was confusing to passengers as to why some could sit up there and some could not. She said she explained it to passengers as even though it was business and not first, it was normally done as a courtesy to high level members on various OW programs.

I do worry if they get enough comments and complaints they will simply block off the section unless they really need the capacity.

That would be too bad if it was spoiled for us deserving people:D
