Hilton HHonors - Can you book a GLONP for 5 nights only?

I'm reading the fine print on the GLONP rewards table:

Locate a reward code for the number of points you'd like to redeem, based on the number of nights you choose to stay in a specific hotel. Hotels are arranged into three categories and rewards are from 6 to 14 nights. (If you want to book these rewards for less than 6 nights, please call Customer Service.)

Has anyone every tried to book one of these reduced rewards for only 5 nights? Would they still only charge 29k points for a Cat 6 hotel per night or will the cost go up if you book for less than 6 nights?

There are "special" awards that permit you to book a 4 night (AXON) or a 6+++ night (s) award - but not a 5 night.

For 5 nights, you should consider booking an AXON award (125,000) plus an ordinary one night (25,000 - 40,000).

Where do I find these AXON rewards? I'm looking at this link (http://hhonors.hilton.com/en/hhonors/rewards/hrr/index.jhtml) to view the GLON table.

If I understand you correctly, a 4 night AXON at a cat 6 hotel is 125k points. So if I add a 5th night at 40k to that I end up paying 165k points for 5 nights instead of 175k for 6 nights using the GLONP, correct? So, I'm paying 33k points per night which is still a saving over paying 40k a night....

That is correct. The AXON award is for holders of the HH AMEX card only. You need to request it over the phone when making your reservation.

Ahhh, thanks for letting me know. Doesn't apply to me then. That's why I never heard about it I guess...

Why not get the card? There is no annual fee

It's only available to US residents. The OP is from Sydney, I think.

I would just book it for six nights and check out early, I can't imagine the hotel would have a problem with that.

I agree with Beckles, last Christmas on the Big Island I had 2 rooms for 6 nights, our flight was around 11pm on the evening of the 6th day. I told the rooms manager what my situation was, he was so overbooked he offered me 2 free nights at any Hilton to be used anytime if I would give up my 2 rooms by 4pm. I said yes, checked out at 3:30, kept our luggage at the belldesk and everybody won.

The OP's question was already asked and answered on the GLON thread referenced in the "Please Read First -- FAQ" sticky at the top of this forum.

And there's also already a thread on the AXON.

(Time for some more thread merging?)

I have done this a couple of times and never had any issues. May not be the most miles-effective, but it is the easiest.

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm based in Australia, so no HH card for me. I think it might be best to just book for 6 and stay for 5 nights. Still better than 200k for 5 nights at the normal rate. Thanks everyone.
