Hilton HHonors - Hilton Hotel in LA

Hi,
Will be visiting LA for my first time.
I have booked Hilton LAX for one night as the flight gets in around 5:30pm (rush hour).
We are renting a car from Hertz the next day from the hotel desk.
What is a convenient Hilton Honors hotel in LA? I am thinking of the Hilton Universal City. Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. We may or may not have a rental car and may need public transport. We would love to find a hotel which is convenient and quite new.
thanks

Welcome to FT and the Hilton Forum.
Here's an existing thread on Los Angeles properties that might give you some ideas.
Hilton HHonors Properties in Los Angeles (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=124150&highlight=angeles+los)
Many of the hotels discussed have individual threads which might contain information you might find useful.
I don't think any of Los Angeles properties are "new".
Good luck and enjoy.

You might want to look into rebooking your stay at LAX under promo code H3 (if I remember correctly). They are offering triple miles at Hilton LAX right now and have had some very decent rates ~$110 here lately. Good luck!

There is no such thing as a convenient area in L.A.; there are only convenient locations depending on what your needs are in L.A. ;)
Let us know what you'll be doing and where you need to be and maybe we can help with some suggestions. :)

I guess I want to do all the touristy things.
Universal Studios Hollywood
Hollywood walk of fame
Rodeo Drive
Sunset Boulevard
Can't think of anything else at the moment.
I won't have a rental car so would need to rely on taxi and public transport.

I would put myself somewhere along the Metro lines (http://www.mta.net). It won't get ou all the places you want to go, but combined with bus rapid transit, you'll be well-served. So, your choices are downton LA (Checkers, a nice, boutique-y Hilton), Pasadena (Hilton, another unusually boutique-like hotel) or Universal City.

LA is a tough city/metropolitan area to get around without a car. Even though the LA area has the largest fleet of city/Metro buses in the country, I hardly notice them.
The sights you have planned are all west of downtown to Beverly Hills. The nicest Hilton in that part is the Beverly Hills Hilton, where you can walk to Rodeo Drive. You can check the distances from the Beverly hilton to the attractions on Mapquest to get a feel of cost of taxis.

CIT85 is right--the Beverly Hilton is not only the nicest Hilton in the LA area, it is my favorite Hilton in the Continental U.S. If you can get a reasonably priced room in the main building, that would be my top recommendation.

See my post on the main thread about LA hotels - I disagree that Beveryy is nicer than Universal and personal preference et al.
Favorite Hilton in the Continental US?????
Wow, it wouldn't make my top ten list - you must have had some great experiences there!

I've had some nice upgrades there, including to the penthouse suite. :D
