I have am flying ALB-ORD tomorrow.
ALB-LGA - on US
LGA-ORD - UA Flight / US ticket
Seatcounter says there are 6 seats avail on a direct UA flight ALB-ORD. Will this flight be available for confirmed standby?
It sounds like you have US ticket not UA ticket. Honestly I doubt it.

There is a US flight number associated with the direct flight if that means anything *shrug*

No. That only means you can buy the ticket from US.

Perhaps if your ALB-LGA flight is overbooked they would I know it's a long shot, but this morning my cousins were flying out on a UA flight from LAX to ORD, connecting to LAX. The AVP-ORD leg was overbooked, and UA ended up VDB'd them, and putting them on a US flight through PHL which (theoretically) would get them to LAX 20 minutes later than the ORD-LAX flight. So it's certainly worth the ask, although I suspect that US would not be this pro-active! Of course, if you have nice agents in ALB, you probably have a much better shot.
