confirmed on CX website's schedule. From 1Oct 751 and 685 flights will be 74A operated. 683 will stay 330 though.

good news n they do see 9W and Kingfisher's entry on HKG market as a threat.

So that's where they're sending the 74A that's being bumped off CX888. Sounds great.

Now we'll just have to wonder where the freed up 773s will go, new routes or hanger for a refurb.

Really? Is that the same thing as 744? Because when I checked the website that's what's showing when you try and make dummy bookings. Still, quite an improvement on that route though and an answer to the 9W challenge. 9W is using 2-class service, but with flat-bed J. CX is now using 3-class partially, at least.

From http://airlineroute.blogspot.com/search/label/Cathay%20Pacific

Cathay Pacific is increasing the capacity on flights to Mumbai and Dubai effective October 2008.

The Hong Kong - Mumbai - Dubai (CX685/684) and Hong Kong - Bangkok - Mumbai - Dubai (CX751/750) will be upgrades from Airbus 330 service to Boeing 747-400 from 01OCT08.

Obviously they got it wrong...flights being upgraded from Boeing 777-300 to Boeing 747-400 (which seems to have the new product aswell...)

Any chance the non-stop Dubai flights will be upgraded too?? (they currently have the former 3-Class product).

I think the new First Class product could work very well in the Dubai market, especially as competitors such as Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines and Thai continue to use an inferior product between Dubai and their respective hubs with cradle seats.

Maybe the Boeing 777-300 will be upgraded to the new product, and serve shorter flights such as that to Sydney that may warrant increased capacity.

Yes, all 333s are supposed to be reconfig'ed to 33Bs within the next 12 months or so.

EDIT: But even with the 333, their product is far better than EK's competing 332 and 773 (not reconfig'ed) products.

So what exactly is prompting this change from regional 777's to 74As and 33Bs? If it were just on the HKG-BOM (non-stop and via BKK) route, I would have guessed it was increasing competition with the Indian carriers, notably 9W. But both the upgraded routes continue onwards to DXB. Is there something about the HKG-DXB market or the BOM-DXB market (on CX) that has changed all of a sudden that's reason enough to upgrade equipment? Just curious, that's all.

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if CX flights from DXB - HKG on the AB333 are with the new seats?
Thanks for you replies in advance.

Cheers

Does anyone know if the 74A flights to BOM are being sold as 3-class or 2-class? Just wondering as it doesn't always seem consistent whether the 747 is on these flights.

Can confirm that the 74A is used on this route.

I was on the first leg (HKG-BKK) last week and it was the new config.
By the way, I was the only passenger in F.

2 nice flight attendants taking care of me..
