MilesBuzz! - Purchases @ Home Depot or Lowes ~~ How to get the MOST MILES?

Need to make some purchases in the near future and can buy from either HD or Lowes. I've tried checking SkyMall and several airline sites, but don't see any good offers to net miles :( I know you can get discounted gift cards via AARP, but what is the best mileage deal anyone has found?

BTW, I did a search & don't see a recent topic. If I missed one, please let me know ;)

Altho I'm happy to get AA miles, I am trying to top off USAir, UA, or DL accounts. Thanks :)

I know you are not talking about buying-then-return but you should be able to find some answers in this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=797409).

1) Some credit cards offer extra miles for grocery spending. Some grocery stores sell gift cards. If you can find Lowe's or HD gift cards there, you can buy them on that card and get the bonus.

2) Online, I think Delta and United are offering the best mile/dollar ratio on HD gift cards today. 3mi / $2

3) Last winter you could earn AA miles for HD gift card purchases at http://www.aadvantageeshopping.com but not today. For AA you'll need to buy your gift cards through http://www.airmilesmart.com which earns 1 point per $2 spent. You can convert 500 of their points to Starpoints, and then redeem them for AA miles. If you convert at 1.25 miles per Starpoint, then in the end you will be getting 1.6 AA miles per $2 spent.
