Etihad Airways has catered to 1.4 million passengers in the first three months of 2008 compared to one million in the same period of 2007, Gulf News reported.

Recent figures showed a 40 percent rise over the previous year. The record-highfirst quarter keeps the airline on track to achieve its 2008 target of six million passengers.

Fanciful figures or not, here are a few more:

Etihad carried 1.4m passengers in the first three months of this year, an increase of 40% on the same period last year, and looks on target to achieve its stated goal of carrying 6m passengers this year.
Yield, or the average fee per ticket, increased 25% to an unspecified amount.
Seat factor, or the average number of passengers as a percentage of capacity, increased by 7% to 75% on all routes.

The airline has seen particular success in its routes to the South East Asia-Pacific region.
Flights to Bangkok had an average seat factor of 91%, those to Sydney 88%, Manila, 86% and Jakarta 84%.
Other destinations seeing an average seat factor of more than 80% included Brussels, Lahore, Paris, Toronto and Cairo.

Etihad, let's talk about DUB.

Are there any travel agents here on this forum?
I know it's not really a career field or a great business nowadays, but EY has pretty much stuck up its finger to Irish TAs:

Etihad Airways has cut the commission it pays to Irish travel agents from 5% to 1% (http://www.ttglive.com/c/portal/layout?p_l_id=61139&CMPI_SHARED_articleId=519524&CMPI_SHARED_ImageArticleId=519524&CMPI_SHARED_articleIdRelated=519524&CMPI_SHARED_ToolsArticleId=519524&CMPI_SHARED_CommentArticleId=519524) [TTG]

A spokeswoman said: “The shift in commission rate from 5% to 1% in Ireland will bring it in line with the standard industry rate and the airline’s commission rate in the UK.

“Etihad values its close relationship with the travel trade and the contribution its agents make to the airline’s business and Etihad will continue to provide competitive fares to its agents.”

So, it Etihad instead going to offer lower-priced fares from DUB, special web-only fares, better promotions or some other incentives to get flyer-buyers to go to the website instead of a TA?
