Why are we not able to reserve seats until 6 months prior to travel date?
Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Reserving seat assignmentsView Full Version : Reserving seat assignments swdke Apr 2, 08, 8:07 am Why are we not able to reserve seats until 6 months prior to travel date? Wasabi Tofu Apr 2, 08, 10:47 am Why are we not able to reserve seats until 6 months prior to travel date? Because CX reservation system are not configured to accpet seat assignment for 6 months later flights. But, probably, you are not asking such an answer, but CX's intention, or thought behind the sceen ? My wild guess is, CX is notorious for changing aircraft continuously, even last minutes, so does not want passengers reserve seats long before departure date. Or to save their reservation system capacity for seat assignment ? G-man82 Apr 2, 08, 7:35 pm On a related note, can CX Silver tier and above members take advantage of Advance Seat Reservations when traveling on the All Asia Pass? The rules say, "No," but they don't specify whether or not that applies to CX/OW elite members. My guess is that my son will still have all his MPO benefits. ijgordon Apr 2, 08, 7:50 pm On a related note -- I booked a CX Business class flight through my corporate TA's website. For some reason the seat assignment's didn't stick and I can't seem to re-select them on that website. I'm able to bring up my booking on cathaypacific.com, but there's no option there either to change seat assignments. Is there any way to do this online, or do I have to call?!? Most of the airlines I fly regularly easily let you manage your seat assignments online. cxfan1960 Apr 2, 08, 9:34 pm On a related note, can CX Silver tier and above members take advantage of Advance Seat Reservations when traveling on the All Asia Pass? AAP is now on booking class M, so that should be doable. Your son can call MPC hotline. cxfan1960 Apr 2, 08, 9:40 pm On a related note -- I booked a CX Business class flight through my corporate TA's website. CX probably wants to control the seat selection so that they can block/unblock any seats at their convenience. justforfun Apr 3, 08, 12:09 am Is it possible to select seats in advance on F award reservations, as an AA EXP/OW Emerald? vlawkh Apr 3, 08, 12:21 am AAP is now on booking class M, so that should be doable. Your son can call MPC hotline. as a SL or above member, u can allocate seat in advance even the booking class does not earn miles. (i.e. bookings on SNQO) cxfan1960 Apr 3, 08, 1:24 am as a SL or above member, u can allocate seat in advance even the booking class does not earn miles. (i.e. bookings on SNQO) I was not aware of that. I have never bought any non-mileage-earning booking class ticket. I know SL or up can have advanced seat reservation, but according to the MPC benefit page, group fares are not eligible for ASR. Perhaps MPC can be accommodating enough to extend ASR to these fares. Sam P. Goodman Apr 3, 08, 12:46 pm I just booked a trip in coach for next March. I selected my seats during booking, but on my final reservation, it reads "Seat XX Requested." Does this mean I don't actually have the seats I selected? kchika Apr 3, 08, 1:14 pm I just booked a trip in coach for next March. Because seats cannot be assigned until 6 months before departure, your seat request cannot be honoured now... Sam P. Goodman Apr 4, 08, 1:23 pm Because seats cannot be assigned until 6 months before departure, your seat request cannot be honoured now... Seems a bit odd that they would let me "select" my seats at booking if they can't honor them. Oh well...guess I'll have to calll at 6 months and see what happens. I think these go in as requests and will be assigned when the 6 month window opens up. I selected seats at booking around 9 months out and when the flights fell into the 6 month window I was automatically assigned the requested seats. In another oddity of seat allocation I have a RTW that only has my seat preference as window in the booking which I booked in November. The flights for my Asia legs have just come into the 6 month window. All the flight are showing as empty in F apart from me and all on 747 aircraft. Yet the first 2 have me auto allocated 2K the third one has me un 3K - why the difference for that last flight when 2K is available?? Sam P. I think what concerns me is that I tried a dummy booking for the flights I've already booked and my requested seats show up as available, which means there could be several customers who have all requested the same seats. I normally wouldn't worry, but on the 747, there are only a few rows of 2 in coach. giceh Apr 6, 08, 11:08 pm I've never flown Cathay before, and I was wondering, are you not allowed to see which seats are available to reserve online BEFORE purchasing the ticket? I am trying to purchase an M class fare that is restricted, but the travel date is June 12th, so that is less than 6 months away. Is the standard process to call Cathay to reserve your seats after purchasing your ticket online? vlawkh Apr 6, 08, 11:34 pm I've never flown Cathay before, and I was wondering, are you not allowed to see which seats are available to reserve online BEFORE purchasing the ticket?
