Greeting folks!

I've got a Verizon LG VX8600 phone. I'd like to be able to use it as sort of a bluetooth modem to the internet via its wireless data system. I am paying quite a lot for the top-of-the-line data plan.

I'm just not sure what do do - I've got it paired to my notebook, but don't know where to go as far as some sort of phone number, username and password that Windows is asking me for if I try to use it!

A search on google has lead me on a wild goose chase pretty much, some of it seemingly wants me to do some weird modifications to my cell phone.

Any suggestions would be very helpful!

I don't know about today, but 10 months ago, I tried this with my 8600 and was told that Verizon didn't permit bluetooth data tethering due to "bluetooth viruses". Gosh, I sure hope they don't sell any smartphones that can receive email!

Anyway, I've had surprisingly good luck with Verizon's data support helpdesk. You might want to give them a call. Personally, I've opted for their broadband data card.

Thanks - that's my next step - some sort of CF card. I did manage to hack enough of my phone to make this happen late yesterday. It works quite well actually, but oh, the things I had to do...!

My biggest beef actually is about the phone itself. This is my second (a replacement for the original), and its ability to pull a signal is dismal, even in Fremont, CA (a San Jose suburb) where I'm at right now. Battery life is also poor.

My new job, when it starts (a promotion!) gets me some sort of Nextel phone. I'm convincing them that it is in THEIR best interest to get me some sort of smartphone or Blackberry system. I am too spoiled by connectivity!
