LA's largest transpacific airline will operate the only nonstop flight to Sao Paulo

Korean Air will launch new, nonstop service on June 2nd from Los Angeles to São Paulo, Brazil's economic center. The service between the commercial hubs is Korean Air's third nonstop destination from LAX, joining Seoul and Tokyo.

" Korean Air's non stop flight between LAX and Sao Paulo is a key route for people who want to conduct business in the world's second largest city," said Jong Eun Lee, Korean Air's regional vice president for the Americas. " Korean Air already offers the best options for travel to Asia, but we're also a global airline that will now provide the much needed passenger and cargo service between Los Angeles and Sao Paulo that no other company has the scope to do."

Subject to government approval, KE061 will operate Monday-Wednesday-Friday flights between LAX and São Paulo (GRU) beginning June 2nd using Boeing 777-200 aircraft in a three class configuration (First, Business, Economy). Every seat will feature Korean Air's award-winning audio-video on demand entertainment system.

The flight is tentatively scheduled to depart LAX at 7:30pm and arrive in Sao Paulo at 11:00am the next morning. The return flight will leave Sao Paulo at 1:30pm and arrive LAX at 9:30pm the same day. Korean Air will be the only airline with nonstop service between Los Angeles and Brazil.

Korean Air is the largest cargo carrier in the world and carries more air cargo at LAX than any other passenger airline. The airline also is the largest transpacific passenger carrier out of Los Angeles, and flies from more cities in the Americas to more cities in China than any other airline in the world. This new service will provide an important air cargo connection between Asia and Brazil that will generate a significant positive economic impact on the Southern California economy.

Isn't FedEX Express the largest cargo airline?
The company has over 600 planes, as far as I know.

I would think so, with UPS probably second.

Maybe KE thinks: They carrier letters, we carry cargo.

Seriously, I think KE would be the passenger-and-cargo airline that carries the most cargo.

That's true. FedEx(FX) is the largest cargo carrier. What they should have commented is the largest INTERNATIONAL cargo carrier, instead of just the largest cargo carrier. Nevertheless the number of aircrafts has nothing to do with actual cargo transported. While KE has only 20ish cargo aircrafts and about a hundred of pax aircrafts, it transported more than half of what FX transported in 2006.

Take a look at "By Scheduled Freight" section,

UPS is currently the second largest cargo carrier, however KE is catching it up. While 5X(UPS) did 1000 millions freight tonne-kilometers than KE did in 2005, the gap reduced to 600 millions in 2006. 2007 figure is not available yet. Usually, KE identifies itself as the largest international cargo carrier in the world, but it seems like they made a mistake this time.

As you see, FX and 5X do not transport as much cargo as most people would think.

Will KE also serve Bibimbap between LAX and GRU?
FOR passengers travelling all the way down to GRU,
it means two Bibimbaps and two hot chilly tubes, too.
Not that I don't like Bibimbap, it has been offered way too long.
over 10 years, I guess. KE should be more creative in choosing in-flight meals since Korea has a wide variety of delicious food.
Maybe, it is time to try other Korean food, like Dakgalbi ;).
or sweet Hodeok as a snack.:D

I think the issue is that bibimbap is a classic Korean dish that is easily served on an airplane. You can't exactly fire up a grill on board.

That said, I did have a vey good beef bulgogi on SQ. But that was in First Class.

I love Bulgogi and Galbi.
I wish I could eat them on KE.
By the way, was your SQ flight out of ICN?

San Francisco, actually. It was Book the Cook, undoubtedly offered principally for their SQ 015 SFO-ICN-SIN service. I had it on SQ 001 SFO-HKG-SIN.
