I'm flying MSP-ANC on NWA during the day in early July. For the "typical" route of flight that time of year, on which side of the aircraft should I sit for maximum scenic viewing opp'ys?

I've done this flight a few times and always sat on the right. Unfortunately all I've seen is a bunch of boring snow capped mountains.

Also, 95% of the time when on approach into Anchorage, the right side has a good view of the city of Anchorage. You fly almost right of Aleyeska Ski Resort and head over the inlet before turning around and landing on runway 7L/R.

So I've never seen the left side, but the right side is not bad.

I don't know about the flight (from 30,000 feet, even the greatest scenery really doesn't look like much), but for the approach, I agree with alphaeagle.
