Air New Zealand Air Points - Suggestions for a 'cheap' Airpoint run?

Hi all,

After a couple of changes to upcoming flights, I have discovered that I will be short of Gold Elite by just 118Airpoints. So I was wondering if anyone had a good 'airpoints run' I could do to achieve those 118airpoints and gold elite.
I am based in NZ mostly, but only have weekends to do the trip with no annual leave left.
Work travel is too random to rely on and so will be funded by me and therefore a little cost concious.
I am in HKG for a couple of days in 23-26April but have tried and tried to find a cheap way of racking up some points but no luck - was looking at starting in different places too (BKK, MNL, SIN etc).
The best I have found so far is WLG-AKL-PPT in business that would generate 220 each way and will be using this as part of a seperate itinery (approx 6.3NZD per airpoint)
So i am left with a business one way to OZ and returning in Y say, WLG-AKL-SYD-AKL-WLG to get approx 135airpoints (approx 11NZD per airpoint)
Is this my best bet? or is there something a little more interesting and still cost effective? whether from NZ or during my visit to Asia?
any thoughts greatly appreciated!

You can do better than that. YHPM.

How long do you have to earn them? Bear in mind if you are not GE now your membership year gets reset (to the middle or end of the month that you qualify for GE), which may have an impact on your requalification. Also bear in mind any Gold u/g vouchers unused will vanish when you first qualify for GE - so be sure to use them up first if you can.

If you have plenty of time then waiting for an appropriate sale may be worthwhile.

Thanks for the PM Kiwiflyer - food for thought.
I am currently gold (complimentary) so no upgrade vouchers and will need to get to 1500airpoints by 26June 2008. First available time to start serious flying is 23 April (missus and daughter go back to UK for 4months) and I am in HKG for that date and then will start my RTW from HKG there too. Got a couple of Oz returns booked, but my main long hauls AKL-LAX-LHR will be in July and past Gold Elite deadline date so would be good to get *E so that other flights will count to requalifying the following year.
Strange i couldn't find any good deals in Asia, but most well over $1500USD to get only a few airpoints in business.
Was going for a circle pacific from HKG but this is real cost of around $6k + especially with hotel stays and connecting flights to maintain stopovers in NZ (route i had in mind was HKG-ICN-YVR-SEA-SFO-LAX-SFO-LAX-AKL-HLZ-AKL-HKG or similar).

Airpoints within International Zone J Class less than 2,000 km 40 points and over 2,000 km 60 points.

I have picked up cheap seats on LH in J NZD 650 BKK - SGN - BKK (80 Airpoints).

TG Domestic flights in J - 40 points per flight.

Do you need those additional 118 AP to be on NZ metal or any other Star Alliance metal? To get Gold ELite you need something like 900 AP on NZ metal to begin with.

That's pretty good. TG also have good business fares ex SIN (think places you can fly direct to on SQ but via BKK on TG ;) to get 4 x 40 airbucks).
