I know that technically you are not supposed to be able to do this, but from numerous comments in this forum I also know that many have been successful in doing so.
My question is - when you go to the amex website to link a friend's FF account with your MR account, it askes for a name associated with the FF acct #.
For those who have done this - did you use your own name with your friend's FF acct#, or did you use their name ?
Thanks
Use the name associated with the frequent flyer account, otherwise the transfer may be rejected by the airline's system.

To my knowledge, Amex doesn't have a problem allowing you to transfer your Membership Rewards points to anyone else's frequent flier account.
I've transferred points to one of my husband's FF accounts, my mom has transferred points to my Continental FF account, etc.
When you log into your Membership Rewards Summary online, you can link any number of frequent flier accounts to your MR account. There doesn't appear to be any restriction that those accounts are your own.

Technically you're not supposed to redeem MRs for other people's accounts unless they're linked to your card. It's stated in the AMEX TCs. Only a matter of time before they crack down on this too.

Very annoying - I've just spent $35 to add my name to my wifes account in order to transfer her points to me.

My friend called Amx to see if she can transfer her MR points to my FF account. She was told that she needs to call ahead to get permission and that she is allowed to do it once. We never followed through because her plans changed.

There's no need to speak to anyone at American Express or the airline. The entire process can be accomplished online.
In my experience it is seldom necessary to speak to anyone at American Express about anything, and it is to your advantage to do as much as possible via the website secure messaging facility because it creates a written record and makes it easier to hold American Express accountable.
