Qantas Frequent Flyer - Treatment of OW Emerald

View Full Version : Treatment of OW Emerald

I am flying on QF51 SIN to BNE on a Q class ticket on 18 July. Looking at seatmap.com, it appears that Y is sold out because a lot of kids are going back to school. A couple of questions:
1. What are the best seats to request in Y class? Are 70/72J and 72/73B near the tail end any good?
2. How does QF treat OW Emeralds as far as seat requests go? I am a CX Diamond.
3. If I request an exit row which all seem to be taken, will they bump somebody and givr it to me?
4. What are the chances for an op-upgrade? Galileo shows J9 Y0.

Any other tips as to how I may maximize my utility being a OW Emerald on QF would be much appreciated.

"1. What are the best seats to request in Y class? Are 70/72J and 72/73B near the tail end any good?"

The best seats are exit row seats, other than that I would tend to go for near the back where there are only 2 seats rather than 3 in the block

"2. How does QF treat OW Emeralds as far as seat requests go? I am a CX Diamond."

You can request a specific seat in advance as long as it hasnt been taken already.

"3. If I request an exit row which all seem to be taken, will they bump somebody and givr it to me?"

Umm, no unsurprisingly

"4. What are the chances for an op-upgrade? Galileo shows J9 Y0."

Pass. I wouldn't bet on it though.

QF will afford you the benefits that Emerald entitles, such as 1st check in, seat selection and 1st lounge access, what extra do you want?

I don't think a request to bump someone out of an existing allocated seat will go down too well! Really, if you want an exit row seat, it seems these are only allocated at the airport - the check-in staff need to see that you are fit and capable of assisting rathering than hindering in an evac. Just check-in early and you might have a good chance at one.

Yes - exit rows are GENERALLY only allocated at the airport. If you are WP or SG, they will put through a request to seating and release the seats. You could always ask as a OWE to see if they will also do this for you ?

The last two times I flew on QF internationally in Y, I rang premium and asked for exit rows. When I went to check in I again requested them, and they said that they had already been allocated to me! (This happened when I was gold & plat)

The last three times on SQ (as an AN GR member, without status) I requested exit rows thru TA, and got them as well. Don't believe they just allocate them at check-in. Think it easier if travelling alone, though.

I was allocated exit row on QF6, in 6 or so weeks from now. According to the map it was taken, but they gave it to me. Although it may have been blocked off initially.

I have phoned up and been allocated exit rows in advance. They seem to only do it in advance for passengers with status.

If they say they are already gone, then they probably are

That's always the 6 million dollar question, isn't it: What extra do we want, or even hope for, as top tier OW members?

I guess CXfan is wanting to know whether QF will go "the extra mile" for a OWEm, in terms of unpublished benefits like op-ups.

In the reciprocal case, CX has recently been impressively good in recognising OWEms. DrD was 4 from 4 for op-ups to J last week (one pair admittedly from B fare but the other from M) for intra-Asia 3+hr flights. So as a QF Plat on CX, he was treated extremely well, in addition to the usual perks like 1st class check-in and the Wing's 1st lounge in HKG (which really never fails to bring a faint smile, no matter how many times you do it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ).

Further, the deferential treatment of his OWEm status extended to also securing 2 upgrades for this lowly QF Gold wife travelling with him on the latter 2 sectors http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif So really, 6/6 on op-ups from CX within the space of one week. Not bad.

I too would love to hear any anecdotes on OWEm (not QF Plat) op-ups on QF flights. I'm starting to toy with the idea of both DrD and myself putting a little more weight into our CX MPO accounts, but would be curious to know how QF treats CX diamonds.

[edited to alter abbreviation of OW Emerald for clarity]

Always great to hear that it is still happening - I've always had great reciprocal rights when travelling BA or CX (CX does have a 3 from 4 record for my flights last year).

You MrsDrD... a lowly SG http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif?? I know you did it without DrD's help...so never lowly...aspire to the heights of WP http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm sure these could also be asked in the Oneworld Forum (hint), but I'm sure they will illicit a response here too.

(one of these days I'll learn how to type...)
