CALGARY - WestJet Airlines Ltd.'s (TSX:WJA) chief executive says the outlook for his airline looks bright even as a number of U.S. airlines have announced plans to scale back their growth.
"The economy in Canada is very robust," Sean Durfy said after delivering a speech to the Calgary Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday. "We have no plans to reduce any capacity. We're going to continue to increase capacity."
Several major U.S. airlines said this week they planned to slow their growth and cut costs as a means to deal with high fuel prices. Crude oil closed just above $88 a barrel on Tuesday and has flirted with the $100 a barrel mark in recent weeks.
