Is it possible? Is there a fee like there is for Air Canada to stand by for an earlier flight?

If you have a purchased ticket on a WS flight, you can standby for an earlier flight for a fee ($40?).

If you simply show up at the gate and ask if you can be rebooked, I found other airlines will simply let you on with a new boarding pass. Is WJ a stickler on the fee like AC? I can tell you that Southwest, their role model, is not into those charges.

I've had luck with westjet waiving fees. In my case it was a result of my own stupidity and was fully prepared to pay. It was VERY nice of them to waive the fee, it was very much appreciated.

Well i was just in Calgary on the 21st and i was due to fly out on the evening red eye back to halifax and wanted to get out earlier. The check in agent didn't realize i was here on WestJet official Hiring business and thought I was a normal passenger and she told me that if i wnted to fly on an earlier flight i would just pay the fare difference and no extra feez!

I later got the flight switched for me by a Team LEader lol

I did the experiment. I arrived early and asked to board a flight for the same destination that was in the boarding process and had space. I was refused and was told any change has to be at least 30 minutes prior to departure and requires reticketing, fare adjustments and fees. I tried a second scenario for a routing change to the same destination and got the same story. Westjet is definitely not Southwest.
