Hertz - LAX: Escalades and other "exotics"

Hi guys (and girls?)

I have a monthly rental comming up at LAX - and donīt know what car to take?!

I used to rent Audi A8Ls and Jaguar XJ8, when it was still possible. Now I was thinking about an Audi Q7 or an Escalde.

Where have all the real luxury-cars gone? No jags, no A8Ls.... :( Is there anything on the lot, which canīt be booked over the website?

The Audi Q7 is a nice car, with a big minus: The 3.2 l V6 is not really very powerfull and fun to drive... Has anyone seen the 4.2L Q7 at LAX (and how is the ratio to the 3.2l)?

Another question: Do all the Escalades have the factory Nav (Luxury Package) build in? Or do they come with Everlost (aka "the-luxury-killer"). Do they have a lot of Escalades (or is it a niche car as the A8Ls used to be?)

Thanks for any thoughts!

Frank.

Of the three '08 Escalades I have rented, all of them have had Neverlost instead of factory nav. They did all have roofs and the rear TV system though.

You might find something other then what you see on the website when you get there, but you'll need to ask. There are a lot of "one off" cars in Hertz's fleet.

Thanks for the info, JLewisinSyr!

If I configure the Escalade online, the only options are the luxury package and the rear-seat-entertainment-system. The sunroof is part of the luxury-package. Did your Escalades come with the touch screen display (then the nav could just be deactivated...)?

Have you seen some real luxury cars on the LAX lot lately?

Regards,
Frank.

No touch screen...just a standard radio. You can configure the Escalade with a Entertainment Package ($1,295) and a Sunroof ($995).

As for LAX, I haven't been there recently, but I was speaking in general for Hertz collections and vehicles in their fleets. There are a lot of "one-off" type vehicles.

Last year I had the 4.2L and this year in Kelowna, BC, Canada had a V8 Ford Explorer while most were the V6.

From what I know Hertz don't like having the proper factory sat nav packages on any of their cars as people normally take the DVD's/software for it

As for not having any/many luxury cars at LAX, you have the A4/A6, Escalade, Q7, Infiniti M35 & G35, Merc C230 & Volvo S80

While not really luxury cars they are lots better than most other major rental car companies!
