Qantas Frequent Flyer - Linking Award & Revenue Reservations

My partner and I are traveling to Australia in September using a combination CX and QF Awards and a revenue ticket on QF. We are using CX ORD-SFO-HKG-SYD and returning MEL-HKG-LAX-ORD. Within Australia, we are using a QF award to travel SYD-CNS-SYD and a revenue QF ticket SYD-MEL. Our question relates to the last two tickets. We are actually wanting to travel CNS-SYD-MEL on the same day using two seperate tickets. Is there anyway that QF will allow us check-in all the way through to MEL from CNS or will we have to claim luggage in SYD and check-in again again for the SYD-MEL segement?

I know this is pretty small stuff but we have never flown QF before and curious as to this is accepteable.

One other thing - can we pre-reserve seats on QF for flights within Australia?

Thanks!

As far as I know there should be no problem as long as when you check in CNS you present both tickets. There is no way they would make you claim your luggage in SYD and re-check it.

QF does not pre-assign seats on domestic flights until the night before (by computer). But what I would do is call the QF FF (1800 955 2748 in US) and tell them to enter your AA PLT number and your seat pref - you will be assigned your profile preference in order of status - you come after QF Gold FFers.

QF have pre-allcoated seats for me on domestic sectors of International flights (ie: QF 001-399 - these operate via the International terminals). They do not do preferred seat allocations for domestics (QF400 and above) even in Business class.

As stated above, the computer does the placements and it is not totally perfect. I have a forward aisle preference, Mrs og has forward window preference, and we usually get an aisle and centre seat in the 767. Not good! If we request a change, we usually end up down the far back (with the riff-raff...) so we can get 2 together on the window side.

Thanks for the information. I have called QF and added my AAdvantage number into our records to be sure.

One other quick question (just to be sure that I read previous posts correctly). My partner and I are both AA Platinums (OW Saphire) and I am an Admirals Club member. Will we be able to use the Qantas Clubs in SYD/CNS/MEL on the wholly domestic portions of our trip? Also, can we use the QF First Class Lounge on our departure MEL-HKG if we feel like "lounge hopping" should we not like the CX lounge?

Absolutely - the rest of oneworld is actually quite civilised about such things, allowing access to ALL Sapphire and Emerald members, regardless of whether the flight is international or domestic.

Enjoy the Qantas Clubs, they have some of the best lounges in the world. Sydney domestic (Terminal 3, that is) is one of the best lounges anywhere, and most of us have been in more than a few.

And the drinks are free, btw, if you aren't sure about which Australian beer o go fo, it is the Hahn Premium. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I believe that CX use the QF F lounge at MEL - I presume you are flying in F, your original post doesn't say.

If not, you will only have access to the J lounge - the F lounge is reserved for Emeralds.
