Hertz - Seeking New Weekend Promo - Can you find something better than $10 off 2 days?

Help, I need a new promo!

I got hooked on weekend rentals last year with $25 off 1 weekend day via 102793 (expired 12/31/07) (http://flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=739298).

My current promo expires March 31: $25 off 2 weekend days 107181 (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8756502&highlight=#post8756502).

The best replacement I've found so far is $10 off 2 days ($5 per day, 2 day min, max $15), through AAA (http://www.aaa.com/coupon/ZEmemberaaa.html), Marriott and United (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?p=9143331).

I suspect they've smartened up. :(

That may be the case, but go price a few rentals -- the rate varies depending on the CDP you use. Therefore, I'd say multiple discounts do apply.

I have similar experiences, though I was using Sam's Club CDP that gives me a paltry 5% discount. I guess what happens here is that 50% discount code forces higher rates than you can get without it. As a result, you might only get about 10-20% discount effectively and sometimes the final quote can become even more expensive as in johnep1's case.

By the way, I was using "FIFTY" rate code with a couple of nearby HLE locations. Airport locations may be different as they require a promotion coupon rather than that "FIFTY" rate code. YMMV of course.

I don't think the fifty code works on airport locations.

I'm using it for a rental this weekend, and got the AAA 10% off in addition to the lower rate. I think it depends on the discount code if they combine them or not.

For local HLE's, one can get the 50% off using "fifty" and also additional discount using your CDP. For airports, there's a certain CDP code that gives 50% off Fri-Mon and no matter what CDP you inpute, the discount is just 50%of the base.

I have been doing some weekly rentals at my local HLE. Prices have been $108 plus 8.25% for $116 all in for compact. It was even better when I put in a PC coupon like free gas, etc. :)

An example of rates for a weekend rental from an HLE down the road a few miles (fri 730 am to Monday 7:30 am), quoting a ford focus

No discounts, codes, etc - 127.43

Using AAA - $114.99

Using Firty - $63.56

Using AAA and Fifty together - 57.50

I can't say the experience is the same everywhere but for this particular weekend it's less expensive for me to rent a car then take the train into Manhattan for our event because of the discount codes.

The 50% weekend promo worked great this past "weekend" (Thurs-Sun) at the LAS airport location- I was getting rates around $114 for an intermediate with my Marriott discount... removed that and plugged in the weekend code, and ended up with the car for $61 for three days! I tried combining the two but it wouldn't take, kept saying that the offer did not apply.

I played around with several codes for a rental this weekend at SFO.

Ultimately, the AAA discount + $5 a day discount was the best. For whatever reason, most of the other weekend coupons didn't work including FIFTY.

Also, since I needed to actually rent for 4 days, it ended up being best to use the Travel Partners Club CDP and using the Birthday Bonus CDP.

is it possible to combine a RQ code with a PC coupon? hertz won't let me double up FIFTY and 104716, but perhaps there is something else that works.

Wow, 104182 worked great for me. Not sure why, gut gave me a $55 discount at SFO for a 4-day weekend rental. $88 for a 4-day full size with airport fees is great in my book!

I think FIFTY is for a Fri-Mon only. You can't do a Thurs pickup for that RQ, which is why it didn't work.

Okay, yeah, if you look at the current page for the 50% off, you'll see it says FIFTY is only for HLE and only for Fri-Mon. If you want 50% off for airport you need to use the 104182 PC. Which means you wouldn't be able to combine that with any other PC like the Birthday Bonus, etc. Although the 104182 does NOT say it is restricted to Fri-Mon. YMMV plugging these things in, generally, depending upon the specific weekend and surrounding circumstances.

What I've found with the 50% off is you can usually get close to that just with AAA or Travel Partner CDP, then you can plug in a PC which gives $$ off or bonus points. Usually works out better. I don't think I've ended up booking a FIFTY RQ at all.

P.S. When I booked it, the Rate Details page showed "10.0 USD for 110353 PROMOTIONAL COUPON HAS BEEN DEDUCTED FROM TOTAL RENTAL CHARGES applied" and total approximate charges were somewhere around $11, but the full $20 was deducted on return.

Got absolutely screwed on this code, unfortunately. Hertz told me this PC is a physical coupon that I needed to present. Oh well, just be careful using this.

Whenever I tried using this PC code, it raised the base price of the rental...essentially canceling itself out. It saved me a grand total of $4 dollars on a 4 day weekend rental...wow great savings!
