Hi. In the last month or so, I've noticed that my 737 flights have phased out the standard "abc-def" numbering in favor of "abc-jkl". Additionally, the row numbers now jump from 2 to 11. Hence, what used to be 3d (my favorite seat) is now 11j. Any idea why they decided to do this?

I've noticed it, too, on my recent flight from HKG to TSN on a CA B73G (737-700). The only thinkg I can think of is standardization, i.e. starboard side is assigned the "J-K-L" alpha letters and economy starts with row 11. On the B733 or B738, it is still "ABC-DEF", IIRC. I wonder if this only applies to the B73G or to all the B737 series.

I've seen the new numbering on all of my flights since Feb (mostly 737-700/800, but also on PEK-HIJ, which seems to use dinosaur 733s).
