Can someone please tell me what is the meal service schedule in Business on SA's daytime CPT-FRA flight? Do they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner?

I travelled on this flight about 9 months ago. The quality of the meal service was (IMHO) excellent.

Shortly after departure breakfast was served:

Selected Fruit Juices
Sliced Fresh Fruit
Natural or Fruit Flavoured Yoghurt
Cereal
Muesli or Cornflakes

Scrambled Eggs
Served with Beef sausage, sauteed button mushrooms, corn fritters and grilled roma tomatoes

or

A Selection of cold meats and cheese.

Bread Basket
Filled with an assortment of breads and pastries, served with butter and preserves.

Early afternoon lunch was then served:

Starter
Potted Salmon Terrine
Mix Seasonal Salad

Main Course

Sugar Cured Springbok Loin
With slow roasted baby beetroot, caramelised onion ragout and potato blini.

Chicken Jambonette
Stuffed with prunes and thyme, served with butternut and potato gratin, honey lemon and lavender sauce.

Thai Prawn Curry
With steamed Asian rice, glazed carrotsand sauteed sesame bok choy.

Grilled Polenta
With wild mushroom ragout, garlic confit and almond vinaigrette.

Cheese Plate
A selection of fine South African cheeses and crackers, served with South African Port wine.

Dessert
Ice Cream
Three citrus and white chocolate ice cream rounds.

If all that wasn't enough, a selection of sandwiches with tea/coffee was served about 1 hour before arrival in Frankfurt:-::-::-::-::-:

Excellent. My previous flights have been overnight LHR/JNB and return, when sleep rather than food was the most important consideration. I'm looking forward to trying the daytime flight next Xmas now.:)

I had the misfortune of taking this flight in Y last week. The food was awful, IFE worse, and with a jam-packed flight, lots of people shouting at each other across the aisles. And this after a 4:30am wake-up to check in on time...

Give me the night flight anytime

Yes, I did this last December and I had the same experience as simon stingray. B'fast and lunch excellent, but 'dinner' a bit 'thin', consisting of sandwiches only. But considering the 18h45 arrival in FRA not all that bad. I had a connection to AMS and sampled the excellent ^ soup in the LH lounge (the soup was the only worthwhile thing in that lounge, otherwise it was pretty awful :( as usual).

Tip for the daytime CPT/FRA flight: look out of the window over the Sahara: awesome! ^ Apart from that, I actually prefer the overnight flight as I am to restless for a 12 hour 'sit' (even in C).

btw: PM me when you are in CPT. Last year you missed our (very) mini 'DO'

Good tip thanks. Are we best sitting on the left or right of the plane, or doesn't it really matter?

Will do...^

The effect is especially nice because of the shadows that are cast by the 'sanddunes' (if that's what you call it). As you will be flying over the Sahara in the afternoon, it will be better to sit on the right hand side, facing East, away from the sun. Suggest 2 K or 3 K (but any K seat will do - well, preferably not beyond row 7 of course ;) )

Have taken this flight three times in the last 18 months... food is standard SAA fare. Crew insists (tries to at least) you cleose your window-blinds, and you end up sleeping most of the way.... getting to Europe just in time to eat and go to bed again.... give me the night flight any time, even though its Lufthansa equipment. Try getting a seat on starboard side, great view of Cape Town leaving, and dont have the sun in your window all afternoon.
