Have been having some real problems with my Diners Club card, and wondering if anyone can give any advice, or has a contact for DC that may help.

I recieved my latest statement, and it had a late fee and a delinquency fee totaling over $100! I had paid via DC's website for an ACH draw from a checking account. I was pretty sure I paid on time, so I looked up the confirmation e-mail and sure enough I initiated the payment at 9:24AM well before the 4PM cutoff time for which DC promises credit to the account that day. I called CS and they reversed these charges. I also noticed that they had reversed all the points I earned that month, so I had to tell them to put those back as well.

Well, I am pretty sure the same thing happened the month before, since I was pretty sure I had made the payment on time. I was on the road and didn't have the e-mail, etc. so I wrote it off as I must have screwed up and paid a day late or something. I don't have the e-mail confirmation anymore, but the payment also cleared the bank the day after the due date, the same as the timely made payment the month before.

So I asked for this fee to be removed as well, if nothing else for the trouble of having to correct their mistake from the current month. They replied that they could "not go back more that 45 days" I suspect this is not true, but just a ploy to get you to give up. I then asked about all the points they had removed (I hadn't noticed this when I first got the statement, as they make it tough to find online) the CSR spoke with an "account manager" then asked me if I was willing to pay a $15 fee to re-instate the miles. I told him that I didn't think I should have to pay the fee. He put me on hold and checked again with the "account manager" and then told me that they could not do anything for me.

I then asked for a supervisior. He again told me the 45 day deal, and then told me that there was no way possible to re-instate my points. I told him I knew they could b/c they just tried to extort a fee from me to do so. He replied that there was never an option of paying a fee, and that I was not told that. Basically calling me a liar (I am not sure why I would make up that fact)

This has really gotten ridiculous, I am now paying $95/year for a substandard MC where CS gives customers the run around, and won't go a little out of their way to fix a wrong.

I am having a tough time seeing the value in this card anymore. Does anyone have suggestions, or something that has worked for you to cut through the BS that CS is giving out?

Q: How can I reinstate points that have been forfeited?
A: Forfeited Club Rewards points may be reinstated by bringing your Account current and paying a $15.00 fee for each billing period of points reinstated per Card Account. Points may only be reinstated if they were earned during the twelve billing periods preceding reinstatement. The charge(s) for the reinstatement fee(s) will appear on the Card that has been specified as the Primary Card on the Club Rewards Account. To reinstate forfeited points, please call the Club Rewards Service Center at 1-800-234-4034, Monday — Friday, 8am-10pm ET.

Well, it seems to me that you are causing yourself much of the trouble by insisting on walking right up almost to the last hour that you can pay. Their system is obviously not as precise as you'd like.

Me, I never expect it to be! I simply pay a couple business days before the due date and I've never had such a problem. (Each card I have -- and I have many, due to participating in many miles/points programs -- has a cutoff at a differnt time of the day, and I live on the west coast so subrract 3 hours, and I someitmes pay when travling halfway around the world, so sometimes subtract way more hours even, and it's too carzy tyring to pay on the last day but having to make sure it's before a certain time in some time zone other than the one you're in.)

I also never have to wonder whether last month I did pay on time or not, because on a spreadsheet where I keep track of (among other things) upcoming bills due I make a note of the day I actually made each payment.

And DC is far from the only card that has had these issues (of erroneous late fees for payments made just hours before the official cutoff). So if you switch cards but keep the same "nick of time" behavior you're likely to find yourself in the same scenario.

I agree - never pay at the last minute. Card companies are notorious for "errors" and it's never in your favor.
