Hertz - New Zealand Discount or upgrade?

Greetings;

I did a search but did not come up with anything.........................I would like to use Hertz on the North Island of new Zealand in Sept. for two weeks.

Hertz does not come close on price vs National....I use AA for my CDP with Hertz, Club discount with National.........I am Hertz Gold.

I am compltly a "newbee" in the car rental field....we rent 4 or 5 times a year for a total of 4-5 weeks....all out of pocket....any suggestions would be appreciated..........I am not interested in making a killing on price (Would be nice though!!) just would like to any 'goodies" that are avaliable as I do with flights and rooms.

The only discount I know of is AAA (which they wouldn't provide at the counter but you can find online).

On our recent trip to Australia we rented from Avis as we did not find Hertz rates to be even close to competitive. Not sure why. There are many types of bonuses for Avis rentals beyond the standard 50mi/day, though not all of them work outside the US
