Had a rough go with a 3 day weekend rental at my local HLE. Booked a D car.

Went and picked the car up Friday and 3 cars were on the lot and the guy said I could have my pick of an Accord, Torrent, or Grand Prix. Took the Accord since none had an input for my ipod or SAT radio and it got the best MPG. Signed up for the FPO at 2.85 a gal (gas is 3.30 a gal around town). I knew I would use the whole tank on the round trip. It had about 12K on the odo. Had only the valet key to boot.

Get on my way everything is good and how it should be till I drive into a rain storm and the wipers do nothing but smear water everywhere but out of the way of my vision. So nearing my destination I stop for a bite and let the rain pass and call Hertz to get some wipers or a new car...They say "Oh we are so sorry a car should never be unsafe to drive and I call call the ROA station and they will have something ready for you ASAP!"

I go and low and behold another Accord is waiting. It was pretty uncomfortable and the lot was completely full of cars so I asked for something else and got a "No, we really dont have anything else." So I went outside and got in and saw 28K on the odo and I had a moment of silience tried to open the trunk and that would not even open but just went on my way. 5 miles away the car started to vibrate bad and the check engine light came on so I went back for a 3rd car in 6 hours!

I go back in and and dont even act shocked to see me back, they are acting like I am making stuff up or they see it all the time! So now they give me a 2K 08 Mustang. Not really my cup of tea either but went out and it ran and had wipers and wheels and brakes and all the good stuff to be safe car. Get going and get a little hot and turn on the AC and it is blowing soft so I turn in up to 4 and hit the max button and what do you know it doesn't work either...Didn't not have the time or energy to go back again so I drove it back and returned it and said good ridens.

The 13 year old 250K miles Jeep I have runs better that the 3 cars I had put together. And I don't have a maintenance dept. working for me either. Just me and my tools...

I do hope Hertz pays for the FPO option that I wasted using a half a tank in my first car. None in the second. Half tank in the third. I hope they pay for the whole rental and give me a coupon of 2 to make up for a lack of anything!!!

Hertz, I pay more money to rent from you for better cars and service and in the past few months you have had neither...

I have been less that impressed with my HLE. I rented from them twice in Dec and Jan.

While the cars did run, the first one was filthy and reeked of smoke (07 chevy cobalt with 12k mi on it). Plus no power locks or windows - first time I've had to crank a car window in years.

The other car , one was past its oil change - kept beeping at me. The guy told me to just ignore it. It was a Hundai, but in FAR better condition than the cobalt, so I just went with it.

Sorry to hear that your 1st and 2nd cars in your rental were terrible, I wasn't there when you exchanged your second honda accord i would of rented you something alot nicer. I took the situtation seriously i shopped the car to have it looked over and i looked for the newest lowest miles car that i had on the line to rent to you which was the 2008 stang, because i had noticed that this would be the third hertz car you were going to be in on the same rental
I try to provide the best customer service that i can

Well it been a month and i called back again to see why something was done for compensation after I was promised something back after the first call and has told it would be forwarded up the ladder. Low and behold I got $18.64 back for my troubles.

Better than nothing but I think more should have been in order...

I got one of those Colbalts from SAN last year. The only rental I have ever gotten without power. But at least it was clean.
