I have a lot of Diners Club points that I am contimplating turning into BW points. Mrs pbiflyer has a trip to Rome planned. I was thinking of trying to use BW points for a free stay.
Is there a way to tell availability of rooms for points online?
Or can I call and reserve rooms, then transfer the points?

if its through diners club you might want to see if they have free nights through their own point system. As far as i know there is no way to convert one cards points into another but i could be wrong.

Welcome to FlyerTalk, BWFrontDesk, but Diners Club points are similar to American Express Membership Rewards points in that until recently, the only way to use them for hotel stays was to convert them to hotel points! (Both cards have recently implemented ways to use the points at about 1c/point for "any hotel room" or "any airplane flight", but those are poor values generally compared to converting to real hotel points or real airline miles.)

Diners Club and certain AMEXs, which are both charge cards rather than credit cards by the way, are the only two cards whose opints programs can be converted both to a variety of hotel programs' points and to a variety of airline programs' miles. (However, the list of hotels and airlines that you can transfer to is quite different between the two cards.)

See:

The BW reward system is still somewhat old-fashioned. You have to get a reward voucher (which is only good for a limited time, I think 6 months), and then make the award reservation by phone. And you can only make that award reservation by calling.

So I suspect to find out about award room availability you have place a similar call.

It's been a few years since I've made an award reservation at BW, so I don't remember if you have to give them a certificate number, or if they just tell you to present the certificate when you check in. If the latter (which is what I suspect), then you could presumably make the award reservation before you have the BW points, then once you have the reservation confirmed transfer the points DC->BW and then turn them into certificates.

I didn't know that about the diners club cards thanks for the info! Yes the system is old fashion by that you must have the certifcate prior to your arival if you make a points reservation through GCCI. Some Best Westerns will let you use your points at check out to pay for your stay as long as the points have already been converted.

I did find a way to at least check availability on line.
You have to be signed in to your account and an option for using points comes up.
The nice part about the old fashion way of reserving is that I was able to reservere the room on the phone, without having to actually have the points in my account.
So I am assured of having the room before I transfer the points.
Now, I am just waiting on the points to move to get the voucher.
Thanks for the help and welcome BWFrontDesk.
