MilesBuzz! - Sri Lankan Air: what can Skywards be used for?

I have a colleague who is going to fly from US to Zurich on Continental and then to Colombo, Sri Lanka on Sri Lankan Air. He wants to know about mileage earning possibilities.

The airline advises that he will get miles for the whole trip in Skywards. He is based in the US and if he earns the miles in Skywards can he use them on an airline from the US or at a hotel in the US or anything similar.

The flight from the US to Zurich is on Continental (CO 0078) and the flight from Zurich to Colombo is UL 0548. Should the flight from the US to Zurich be used to earn miles on CO or on Skywards?

Alternatively, can he earn points in another program for his flight on Sri Lankan Air?

All help and advice would be appreciated.

Steve

You can go to www.skywards.com, (http://www.skywards.com,) click on the "Partners" link, then click on the partner airlines listed to see the award charts.

You can earn miles on United when flying Emirates. Given that Emirates now controls Sri Lankan, I would imaging that you could also accumulate with them (best to ring and check tho).
