I just used this - $20 off your purchase. Here are the details:

Has anyone else used bill me later before? How long does it take to get the $20? It looks like you also get 3 months to pay! :D

Gracias!

I've used Bill Me Later for a couple of JetBlue flights. It's good when you're buying flights that you'll be reimbursed for a month or two down the road.

The good news is that you really can pay for your flight 60 to 90 days later without incurring any interest.

The bad news is that it's a fresh credit-report hit every time you make another Bill Me Later purchase. It's not like applying for a new credit card, once; it's like applying for a new personal loan every time. and if you don't pay your tab in full within the (admittedly generous) free period, they stick you for 20% interest retroactive to date of purchase.

Thanks for the inside info.

You got me wondering, so I dug into this on the Bill Me Later site. It looks like they ping your credit the first time you use them, but not for any purchases after the first one.

I think this would be a sweet deal paying for travel for work when someone else is footing the bill - get reimbursed and then keep the cash until the 90 days come due.

It looks like they ping your credit the first time you use them, but not for any purchases after the first one. I'm not so sure about this. You don't have a "credit limit" with Bill Me Later; each time you want to buy something your request is evaluated anew, on its own merits. It's the discrete series of evaluations that concern me.

One other limitation of the BML avenue is that you are not able to benefit from the significant consumer protection rules that cover credit card-based transactions. Considering that one generally has 30+ days to pay for a CC transaction, the additional time to pay the bill doesn't really benefit me and it certainly doesn't seem worth even the $20 to remove the purchase protection that using a CC offers.
