I was catching up on my local news and came across this article: The DIA Mustang: It's a love-hate relationship (http://www.9news.com/rss/article.aspx?storyid=88020)

Honestly, I hate that the propped up the sculpture at the airport. It makes me hate the entire mustang. I think it ruins the whiteness/pureness of the airport and the tents. Now, if it were maybe somewhere in Downtown Denver, I would probably actually enjoy it and it blends in more with the surroundings.

So I'm curious, for those of you that have recently traveled to DEN or seen this statue... what do you think?

Where is it exactly? I usually go straight from the terminal onto a rental car bus to the rental car lots so I'm not paying too much attention.

You can't miss it. Its on the median between the inbound and outbound roads off Pena. You still need to pass through when coming in on the rental buses. Its on pena just before it splits for the East and West Terminals.

I hereby dub it the Meth Mustang. Quite creepy.

My last time into DEN in mid-May, the Mustang red-eye lights were not lit at night. Has someone pulled the plug on the illuminated eyes due to complaints or was I just unlucky? (or, lucky, depending on your point of view :D )

It is awful. My 3 year old was scared the first time he saw the eyes!

I was just at DEN last week late at night, I totally didn't know the eyes glow red! Creepy.

Wait!

That thing is supposed to be a Mustang?

I just assumed it was a Denver Bronco (in homage to the team) and accepted its hideousness as some weird sports thing.

I think the Colorado Springs Airport sculptures (the BLOTA HUNKA & BISON (http://www.springsgov.com/AirportPage.asp?PageID=4802)) are soooo much nicer. ^

The artist died making it. It fell on him. http://articles.latimes.com/2006/jun/15/local/me-jimenez15

I think it looks utterly creepy. It looks like it emerged from the depths of hell. Nice way to say "Welcome to Denver."

I just got my first chance to see it last week.

Creeeeeeepy.

And the fact that the artist was killed by it doesn't help much with the creepiness factor.

Came looking tonight for a thread on this very subject...

I get that art is in the eye...however, the horse is beyond awful. I wouldn't doubt that little children burst into tears upon seeing the beast and later wake up screaming because it was hiding under their beds waiting to eat them!

Anyone know what it would take to get that monstrosity moved? melted down? blown up? shot into space?

Seriously, I think it is absolutely the wrong piece in the wrong place. Would it require a petition of Denver residents? An act of the City Council? The Mayor? I would love to find some others interested in putting some energy into making it disappear!
