Ok, so I've read other posts about mileage runs and looked through the primers, etc., but I still don't entirely see how to put something together. Wonder if anyone would be willing to point me in the right direction a little given the following starting legwork:
So if I want to do a MR from Chicago to/from LAX on May 10 & 11… I go to expedia and pull up a round trip that leaves Saturday morning at 7:00 AM connecting in MSP; then returns at 6:50 AM on Sunday also via MSP. This prices out at $185ish…When I check the fare rules it gives me the following connection possibilities:
CHI-NW-HOU/MEM-NW-SPI/STL/MKE/ MKC/IND/DTT/CVG/BNA-NW-MSP-NW-LAX*
I kind of understand what this means…I can put together a multi-city routing that goes
Chicago to Houston or Memphis
.. then to either Springfield or Milwaukee, or St. Louis
… on to either Kansas City (?), Indy, DTT (Detroit?), Nashville, or Cincy..
… then to MSP… and finally on to LAX.
And then I can reverse the routing on the way back? Or something like that….
But what I don't get is how to actually force the routing when I book. Do I do the multi-city option on NWA.com or Orbitz?
So I have 18,300 EQMs in 2003 (all out of my own pocket and discounted fares). I have another 17k booked but would like to get my elite status sooner if I can, so targeting about 6700 miles here. LAX doesn't have to be my final destination but it seems that it's far enough to get one decent long leg in and it's cheap to fly there right now. I know people don't want to do the work but I'm just not getting it in terms of getting past this point….
What am I missing here and any help is appreciated greatly. Thanks all
