Newsstand - U.S. In-flight Broadband Is A-gogo by Spring

If you’re a frequent flier to New York from San Francisco or Los Angeles, or just like to jet down to Miami to get away from the bitter New York winter, then you’re one of the lucky people who will have in-flight broadband by this spring, according to Jack Blumenstein, president and CEO of Itasca, Ill.-based Aircell. The company is calling its in-flight broadband service gogo.

I have no idea why the person writing the article mentioned Miami at all in the teaser. The service will go into effect first on AA 767s between JFK and SFO/LAX. VX is also installing the service on their planes, but they don't fly to MIA, yet. Maybe eventually AA will install it on the old A300s that are the primary workhorses on the JFK-MIA route, but until then MIA just isn't involved. Wasn't AA only installing this on the 767-200 (3 class) fleet? I don't think they're installing it on the 767-300 (2 class) fleet, and that aircraft operates between SFO-JFK in addition to the 767-200.

They're starting with 15 (I think) 762s, which includes the planes that do SFO and LAX to JFK. Not all the SFO flights will have it initially; the 763s aren't going to be configured until later phases of the project, assuming the initial phase is successful. But some SFO flights will. All the LAX flights are on the 762s which should have it.
