FRA considers Ford Mondeo SDMR/SDAR so I was wondering what the FDAR would be in FRA? It says Benz C automatic, but I won't be allowed to bring that car to Prague.

Skoda Superb?

No idea, but you may want to have something confirmed in advance (not that it ever helps me) In my ongoing saga of MUC 'we have no cars for you', recently I had to dig through the parkade with a manager to find anything capable to going to Slovenia. Hundreds of cars, none of the appropriate manufacturer.

This after I had called Hertz Customer Service as well as the local station in advance.

In the end I ended up with my usual most depised Mercedes A class, and the manager faxed an insurance update to my location to confirm that they would take responsibility of my driving the Mercedes to Slovenia (in the end I did not go, but it was at least a gesture)

Edited to add that my luck is usually far better in FRA with the staff and they are usually more flexible and helpful

It was only €11 more for all four days to have the FDAR (C220CDI automatic or BMW 320d automatic) compared to the SDMR (C180K manual or Ford Mondeo manual). I called Hertz Autovermietung in FRA and they told me they do not have Skoda Superb which Sixt has, but I want to stay with Hertz because I am renting much more now.

I did not know they can offer flexibility in allowing a BMW or Benz to the Czech Republic. Thanks for the information!

I don't know how often they are willing to have the insurance waiver prepared, but in my case the ongoing 'no cars for you' situation at MUC is beyond comical. I think that they realized this after an hour of walking the lot looking for suitable cars (and the offer of a VW Touran was NOT suitable!)

But as I said, my experience with the FRA staff is that they are usually more flexible than MUC

Best of luck!

Did they make you pay for CDW/PAI when you had it "waived?"

Sometimes if I want to drive to Mexico, they tell me I have to pay for CDW/PAI. They usually back off if I threaten to drop the reservation.

No, there was no extra cost involved. I don't book using my corporate CDP in Germany based on the issues on the other thread ie astronomical rates. I just use the credit card insurance.

I also think that they knew that it would be the final straw if they told me that there would be an extra charge at that point. I had the Hertz Customer Service agent and the local agent both document my call on the reservation, so there was definitely a notation that I would require something suitable for Slovenia.

For whatever reason, the only choices were Mercedes A class, Touran, and a large number of manual super economy Toyotas and Opels (I swear that MUC hides all the VWs when they see my reservation - not that it would have helped that day)

I am in FRA now... they said the same thing you told me... not possible to have a C220CDI in Prague. They gave me an Opel Vectra, I'm happy with it.

Glad that it worked and that FRA was its usual good result!

I think Hertz considers Ford Mondeo IDAR, not SDMR/SDAR. In this group, you can get an Audi A4 and a Volvo V50/S60. And, of course, BMW and Mercedes C-Class.

About driving restrictions: "Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi models as well as convertibles, Landrovers and Chrysler Cherokees cannot be driven into or dropped off in Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia." (from www.hertz.com)
