Anyone fly in trans-Pacific international business class recently care to give a report on food, service, inflight entertainment, etc? Will be flying LAX-AKL, AKL-SYD, and BNE-AKL-LAX this summer, all in business class.

Note that on QF 25/26 services BNE-AKL-LAX and return, until around the beginning on May, there is a fairly good chance of the flight being operated by a 3-class 747-400 but sold as 2-class service. So if you can secure seating in zone A (rows 1-4) you may well be in for a very comfortable ride in a QF First Class seat.

Otherwise you will get the standard QF Dreamtime seat. Very high probablility of the new IFE with the larger screens and games etc. As far as I can tell, all the 2-class conversions have the new IFE installed and the 3-class aircraft operating QF25/26 are a mix of pacific and kangaroo fleet. All the K fleet have the new IFE.

QF's food standard in J is very consistent. It is not First Class standard, but very acceptable for long-haul J. If you like your poached eggs runny on the inside, then pass on the QF poached eggs. The fish is always good.

Don't say THAT on the BA board.

The only airline that makes eggs right is CX, and they have a special pressure cooker for the eggs. Once BA insisted on making a dozen eggs for me (the result of a joke that took on a life of its own), so I was served a line of eggs in various stages of doneness (only 1 of the dozen was actually suitable). This is what F staff do for entertainment when there are only 2 passengers in the cabin. The point is that it is almost impossible to make a runny egg at altitude, so pick scrambled instead. As for the food, it seems similar to AA International business food (which actually is quite good), though I've only seen it and had QF domestic business food.

number_6, I hope someone diddn't end up with egg on their face of the BA incident http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif. Agree with the recommendation for scrambled eggs if you must have eggs. QF also to a fritarta (sp?) in J which is pretty good.

QF international J food normally offer a choice of 3 main dishes, one in normally vegitarian and one may be a cold dish. Another good choice is normally the lamb dish on flight departing New Zealand.

On the really long flights, they will often have a snack available throughout the flight. Not quite the renound steak sandwitch from F, but a good option if you can't sleep. Deserts are alway good too.
