Hertz - Hertz Gold - vehicle preferences issue?

Hello all,
I've been lurking here for a long time, and I should take this opportunity to congratulate and thank you all for such a fantastic resource.

I have searched the forums, and cannot find any information about the following matter:

I have a new Hertz 1 Club Gold card (via Amex Plat). Since I have the card, I decided to give Hertz a try on my next trip to the US (I tend to rent elsewhere normally). I have booked a fullsize car and am keen to a) get an upgrade if possible (obviously) and b) benefit from the Gold service and not have to wait in line. The only rate I could get for the car was a prepaid one, with included LDW and Liability (which I would normally have declined, because I have the Amex Plat insurance). I have been told by Hertz that my profile does not match the reservation (my preferences were to decline 'everything' - in the words of Amex). Apparently, I need to print and sign a form (for US rentals), stating that I accept the LDW and Liability in order to get Gold service. So I was wondering:
a) if others have experienced this
b) how long it takes for Hertz to get that changed profile information inputted
c) what car I should list in my preferences (I tend to book fullsize or intermediate, but aim for - and usually get - an upgrade
