The other week on NZ 039 HKG-LHR the AVOD system packed up before departure and the flight was also delayed 2 hours. Does any know what compensation NZ give out as it was a very long boring day time flight? Also the crew told me it was only one of their fleet that this happens on regularly it has the new virgin system installed (on trials)?

Well no compensation for the Delay- Its not really there fault so dont expect anything for that- As for the AVOD, they will possibly give you 1 mabye 2 $50 NZD equivilent, vouchers to use on Air NZ flights or somthing like that. Call them up and say how dissapointed you were, how you will probably fly a different airline next time etc etc and you will definently get some.

Not worried about the delay apart from they did try to fix the AVOD. Its a shame that they do not give you more the longer you are bored! Just rang and they said I have to write in to AKL and request a form for $NZ50 and it can be travel $ or to my NZ flyer account. I'm SQ*G so no luck there.

$50 NZ? No way, Honesly I wouldnt take that. For a 12 hour flight with no entertainment, thats really not on.

Just take it to the top- I have dealt with the Air NZ CEO on a few occasions and hes a top Bloke. Just email ANZ to get his Email, or his PA email- And take your complaint there. You should get alot more compensasion. Rob Fyfe always wants the best for his customers.

I'm a bit soft so it seems! I'll have a go and post what the out come is and by the way with the 2 hours on the ground it was 14.50 total time! with a 90 min battery life on my laptop

A slight aside but in my experience the Windows based Air NZ AVOD sucks... and I did maybe 5 or 6 AKL-LHR / AKL-LAX(NYC) flights between May 2007 and Jan 2008.

I just flew on CO from EWR to CO (due to no :-:A). Their AVOD on a 757 was touch screen and much faster than that on Air NZ. Why they picked a system based on the most unstable OS known to man (Microsoft) I will never know.
