This was our first flight with Korean but certainly not our last. Check in Frankfurt was friendly and a breeze. The plane from Frankfurt to Incheon was one of these Jumbos with the new seats in "Cattle Class" They are a little narrow width wise but have nice leg room. The 3-4-3 seatting isn't the best when you get the window for a 10 hour plus but you can't have the cake and eat it....... Overhead space also liberal but then again most people don't have as much carry on as in the US - Carry on sizes tend to be smaller in Europe.
The crew count seemed higher than on any European and US carrier and these ladies & the odd gent were not only VERY efficient but also VERY friendly. This was already worth the trip.
Food: Very good for eco airline food. I was even brave and tried the Korean dishes on some legs and even those were very good. They had miscalulated western dishes on one of the legs and my mom is a little problematic with her digestion so they found at least her another western meal - How ?? I have no idea but they did.
This is something Korean they might want to consider - allowing passengers to pre order even their standard meals to make sure even passengers at the end of the food chain get the meals they prefer.
Arrival at Incheon was also very nice - all signage was good and the security for transit passengers great - no one shouting orders or play strong man - all done nicely and quitely - hey we were much quicker than when being screamed at.
The airport in new and very well laid out - fun to stoll around. The only disapointment was the advertized shower facilities (advertised on both the website and on a HUGE sign when coming into the transit area) However the signs lead to nowhere and when we asked about these facilites - we were told that they were currently not available due to building work. Sadly we were not offered an alternative. Having 6 hours we had planned to take the shower to be good for the second 11 hours to Sydney. So we just changed to a new set of clothing and headed out to our gate.
INC - SYD
Old Jumbo with old seats but other wise OK. Food and Crew VERY good. Got to Sydney around 7:00 am WOW these guys are strict on the Import side but Immigration was soo nice!!! It shows one can get the same information form travellers without being nasty and rude. It was really a pleasant experiance. Oh and get used to the dogs.
Go pick up you luggage - have your meds or articles you need to declare out and ready and you will breeze through. If you make the immpresion you have understood the rules they won't even make you go through the search. We had our meds together with our biligual Dr. notes and they were happy - even with my heperin injections - no problem. We were in & out the door and in our cab in less than an hour. Try that in the US as a foreigner!!!
Auckland - INC
Nice small international airport with very few flights at midday - however are unable to load aircraft in an orderable way. OK we were late but it was a zoo getting on without using Zone boarding. Took one look at this mess and waited till last. It did take longer even though ECO was not full.
Old type seating 777 - 400 but really OK with a 2-5-2 seating and just about all 5er rows only occupied in the aisle.
Now since all the European flights leave INC around midday and all Korean flight arriving from AUZ & NZ only getting there in the evening Korean pays the night at the Hyatt Regancy. This is a great hotel and splitting up those two 12 hour flights with a hotel night was areal pleasure. It is a real plus point for choosing airlines. Immigration and customs are a breeze and once you have either picked up your luggage (or you were able to check it through to your destination) you head on over to the transfers desk and pick up your vouchers and the bus then takes yoiu 5 min to the hotel. Remember to keep your swim suit in your hand luggage so that you can use the indoor pool on the 2nd floor. Rooms are very nice and breakfast very good. The staff is amazing and always there to help one.
