Hi,
I'll be flying to South Africa mid-July and then traveling overland. Since my schedule is not set, I only have a one-way flight into JNB, but to satisfy visa requirements on entry I need to show onward ticket. I want to buy a refundable one-way ticket on SAA out JNB to GBE, but I'm getting confused with SAA fare codes. The cheapest fare is V and fare rules say "CANCELLATIONS BEFORE DEPARTURE CHARGE 25 PERCENT". Other fares are Y & M (full & standard?) and fare rules don't say anything about cancellations. Does it mean that there is no cancellation fee? I also found this on cancellation form: Note: Refunds will be processed in accordance with the fare ruling on your ticket. All Refunds are subject to an Administration Fee. Tickets are refundable for two years from date of purchase.
Administration Fees for cancellations for flight bookings departing from South Africa
An Administration Fee of R285 will be charged per passenger in addition to any applicable cancellation or rebooking fee.
So I guess I will be stuck with US$37 fee with any kind of ticket. Has anyone had experience with SAA refunds? I find lots of complaints about them on the web. Are there any other better options to do what I want?
Thanks,
