I reserved a GMC Yukon XL for large family of 5 for ski trip to Mammoth Mountain in Mid-March. I can't seem to get a straight answer about 4wd capabilities. One call center person said she thought all premium class suv's were 4wd. Another said to call Ontario Airport direct and ask. I did and the counterman or whoever answered the phone answered "I don't know." Any
verification would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Have received a Tahoe/Yukon several times in the past and never had one that was not 4x4 (not this location though) In some markets like Florida, if the vehicle is only 4x2, it is specifically stated in the vehicle description (ie, Expedition, Navigators @ RSW)
Did get a Trailblazer at IND a few weeks ago that was not 4x4. They did switch me into a 4x4 version though.
I think the best advice I can give you is call the location the day of your rental (before you board your flight) and ask them what they have assigned.
You could also keep calling that location until you get a hold of someone who knows what the He!! their talking about.
You should just call the reservation a few days in advance and make sure they know you need 4WD. I'm not sure if Hertz will guarantee 4WD in that size, but they should be able to do it for you. No guarantee you'll get a Yukon XL -- they've got multiple vehicles of this slize in the fleet -- but you should be fine in 4WD.

What other vehicles might be in that class? Would they be 4wd? Thanks for your info.

Trailblazer, Expedition, Explorer... All with no garantee of being 4x4!
You need to call a manager at the location.
