Air New Zealand Air Points - Priority baggage handling at Melbourne

I was on NZ0725, Auckland-Melbourne, 29th February, in Business Class.

It was a very nice flight.

At baggage collection I waited and waited but mine never showed. Then I noticed that all or most of business class were waiting too and I realised that I hadn't seen a single priority tag on any of the bags that had come out.

Eventally I went over to baggage services and was told that all the bags were off.

So I went looking on other belts and found our bags had been sent to a Wellington flight's belt, which was 2 or 3 belts away.

No big deal I suppose and probably not NZ's fault. But is NZ interested to know when things like this happen? Does NZ pay Melbourne Airport baggage handling to have priority bags delivered first and hopefully to the right belt?

I can't imagne NZ would be too happy to have ALL the premium passengers waiting and wondering what happened to their bags...

Baggage handling in Australia is notoriously bad and has been for years. Do a search on camel suit for example.

Who handles Air NZ at MEL... QF? Last time I flew to MEL was off the early morning QF 744 flight from AKL. My bag took 45 mins to show after I cleared passport control (so probably an hour from the time the plane docked at the gate); and it was by no means the last one off judging by the number of people still waiting around the carousel. The speed at which they got dripped on to the belt made it look like they were being offloaded by two elderly baggage handlers who took a tea break halfway through.
