I believe Hilton has a new policy that there is no black out days for hotel stays. I was trying to book a hotel room in Canon City, CO for 2 nights and was told as the property is going to join Hilton from 20th March 2008(I was able to book for regular rates with the same property), they will not provide award stays for 90 days. Is this true that a newly joining property can have block out days for the first 90 days if they want to?

Just curious to know whether there is any such Hilton rules or is it the customer service agent trying to say something else/

Sounds like another exception that didn't make it's way into the "no blackouts" fine print

So, we now have.

Exempted hotels - eg Conrad Maldives
Exceptional demand dates
New to Hilton family hotels
Hotels can require a large deposit that is non-refundable if you cancel the award

I'm aware of discussions between various FTers and Hilton HHonors about some of these issues. AFAIK none are yet resolved.

I can't answer for Hilton, but I can confirm that Hyatt allows 6 months before new properties are REQUIRED to participate in Gold Passport.
