Hilton HHonors - Why I'm no longer a Hilton customer...aside from boycotting Paris!

But seriously, I had been an HHonors member for a couple of decades and for most of that time a Gold elite. I still have some of those old coupons that gave us an extra 10K points when we made a redemption of 100K or more (since there was no expiry date on them). Before Hilton International joined up with Hilton USA, I was a member of that company's wonderful stay benefits program The Hilton Club, and also of the Canadian version called Vista.

Anyhow, as I transfered a few new points in to keep my HHonors account alive just in case, I reflected on one of the reasons I have not stayed at a Hilton family property since the Scandia in Oslo a few years ago. Then the other night I was planning a trip where most of my colleagues intended to stay at the Hilton or Doubletree, so I decided to check out the res site to possibly book a room and stay with them.

Well, then I realized why I had not been a regular at Hiltons any more, even though I loved the consistency of the upgrading and breakfasts for Gold members: the web site!

How do you guys survive with this site? Every other hotel group's site, when one calls up properties in a given city for a specific date, shows both the properties and a range of available rates. This makes selecting a suitable property at a reasonable price quite easy. But not on the Hilton site. I get a list of the hotels with nice pictures, but absolutely no rate information. To do this takes me two more screens, and then it is for but one property. If I don't like the rate or property, it's back to the same process of multiple screens once or twice or three times more (or even more).

I am surprised that this serious lapse in design and convenience has not been addressed by Hilton.

Gee -- You forgot to mention how you have to log into the site repeatedly just to go from one screen to another.

It also varies by where you log in. For example, the www.hilton.co.uk site is a COMPLETELY different experience from logging in to hhonors.hilton.com (and choosing the US option). You can still search internationally, but you get much more information on the hhonors site.

Yup. Annoying. A couple of weeks ago I was researching both paid and award stays at 4 hotels during a single trip. I think I logged in more than a dozen times in all. And I still didn't get what I wanted (see the threads on blackouts and deposit requirement on awards) and had to call Diamond Desk also.

I agree the website could use a little work/investment

How many stays is Gold??? No status w/ Hilton so not sure. Sounds like they'll be missing soime revenue here.

Hilton has the worst web site I have ever seen. EVER. And I have seen some doozies.

I am amazed that such a large retail company can have such a non-functioning web site. You have to log in every time you go to another page, and the design is terrible.

It sucks.

Comparing www.hilton.com with www.marriott.com is like comparing a 1936 Ford with a 2008 Lexus.

1. It keeps forgetting that I had previously selected two guests in a room.

2. Why do I have to choose a state and/or country, when I entered the airport code?

3. The AAA number box is not large enough. If you know they are 16 digits, then why not make it large enough to show all 16. There is certainly enough real estate on the screen.

4. You can sort by Brand or Distance, but not Rate. Oh wait, it makes sense, it's because they don't/can't show you the rate, on the result screen.

Ever visited USAirways.com?

I guess if you go to places with only 1 or 2 Hilton properties, you don't get as annoyed.

They keep working on the website, but it only ever gets marginally better.

It sucks. I do not know if it is the worst, but it is pretty bad. I am not sure how or why they think people would book online, versus calling.

Shareholder: I have moved all my biz to Hilton on your recommendation. Please make up your mind on this.

Are you now getting second thoughts? I am counting on HH to match my requirements as a very long standing SPG Plat member which iam in discussions over and just completed one stay at TOR Hilton as a result.

Hilton is not perfect but better than most other options.

I don't have any issues with the Hilton website. Maybe I've used it enough that I am use to how it works. I prefer the Hilton website to SPG or Hyatt. The Marriott website is fine, except if you want to search for AAA or M11/12 or other promo codes you have to enter them all separately.

Excuse me for yawning, but I found this thread to be boring.

As much as the HH site is annoying, the SPG "remake" was also a huge step backwards. I dislike using both.

I can't really comment on other hotel's websites and I'm sure no one's is perfect......BUT I do have to vote with the OP on the state of the Hilton website - I constantly have to resign in....and sometimes I see rates when I search and sometimes not - it seems to come and go and depends on whether its US search or international search.

I've learned to deal with it but its really a second rate effort in my book.

I loathe the Hilton website. I like that with Marriott you plug in your location & it brings up all the available hotels w/ the range of rates. Having to do property by property w/ Hilton is a PITA & the having to relog in constantly equally irritating.

So while there are times I could do searches on Hilton, now I tie up one of their agents having them do it. From what they said they have to search the multiple properties the same way we do  , so Hilton is wasting resources & incurring expenses when a better working website would be more cost efficient.

OVMV. Cheers.

I haven't had any major issues with the website and have actually booked all my stays there. I would agree that the constant logins and searching by airport codes is a pain, but all websites have their own quirks. For example, I find that the IC website never gives me the breakfast or any other package rates when I log in prior to making a reservation.

What bothers me is that you have to type your AAA number every time. Why can't they set it up so you can put it in your profile with the expiration date and have it ready when you log in?

^ The above has been a pet peeve of mine as well. Wish they would implement this, but then again there's a lot we wish they'd fix about the website.

Cheers.

Some web browsers have "auto-fill" and partial fill - I type the first number of my AAA number and the browser fills in the rest of it. The Hilton family of websites is kinda dismal - I usually start at HHonors, and find the UK site useful as well, but the idea that every time one finds oneself in another website, e.g. HGI, and has to sign in all over again

I agree with your complaint, but why don't you have your browser auto fill that field for you?
